Amy Ryan has been on the verge of winning the Oscar for best supporting actress for her work in Goodbye little girl goodbye . Still, her nomination has opened the doors to a very tempting future.

Amy Ryan was born in New York in 1970. After studying acting at the New York City High School Performing Arts, the actress began working in theater, a medium that recognized her talent in 2000 and 2005 with two Tony nominations for her work in “Uncle Vanya” and “A streetcar named Desire”, respectively. Her first contact with television was in 1990 when she debuted in the series As the World Turns . Over the years, the actress continued to be linked to the medium thanks to various telefilms and series such as Emergencies , until in 1999 she made her film debut in the drama Roberta . From that moment on, she combined her work in theater, film and television.

A year after her film debut, she participated as a minor in the family drama You Can Count On Me , where she was the sister of leads Mark Ruffalo and Laura Linney . In 2004 she returned to supporting role in the drama Keane . Ryan played the mother of Abigail Breslin ‘s character , a girl who ends up obsessing the film’s protagonist. Steven Spielberg noticed her and called her for a small role in The War of the Worlds (2005) starring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning . A role with more of her presence was the one she got in Truman Capote(2005), where she played the wife of Chris Cooper , who played the policeman in charge of solving the Clutter murder. After a couple of years dedicated to television in series like Law and Order , Ben Affleck called her for her directorial debut in Goodbye Little Goodbye (2007). The film, starring the filmmaker’s brother, Casey Affleck , and Michelle Monaghan, has served to obtain an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. Ryan got into the skin of the mother of the missing girl around whom the plot of the tape revolves. The good interpretation of her has also served her so that the greats of Hollywood have noticed her. Shortly after Affleck’s film, she played a supporting role in Sidney Lumet ‘s Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead . The film is a thriller-tinged drama about a complex family, which includes Philip Seymour Hoffman , Ethan Hawke , Albert Finney , Marisa Tomei and Ryan herself.

Regarding future plans, the actress awaits the premiere of the telefilm MONY , where she has been the protagonist with Spike Lee as director, and that of The Changeling , where she has once again participated in a story about missing children, although this time the orders of Clint Eastwood and with Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich as protagonists. She is currently shooting Green Zone , the Bourne saga couple’s tape, with Paul Greengrass as director and Matt Damon as the lead.
