She was elected Miss Universe in 1974, and later began a long career as an actress. Amparo Muñoz has died at the age of 56, in her house in Malaga, as a result of a long illness. Her life was marked by controversy.

Born in Vélez (Málaga), on June 22, 1954, Amparo Muñoz began as an advertising model. In 1973 she was elected Miss Spain, so the following year she went to her for the title of Miss Universe, an event that was held in Manila (Philippines). She was finally crowned there, becoming the first Spaniard to achieve this feat.

However, she was not willing to let the pageant organization run her life. After refusing to travel to Japan, she relinquished the title. She made her film debut in El diablo en persona , and later she filmed Vida conjugal sana , where she appeared playing herself in the fantasies of the character of José Sacristán .

Amparo Muñoz participated in films such as Tocata y fuga de Lolita , La otra alcoba , Clara es el precio , Mamá cumplee 100 años or Dedicatory. She ended up becoming one of the most characteristic actresses of the ‘unveiling’ era.

During the filming of La otra alcoba , she fell in love with Patxi Andión , who became her husband, although she ended up divorcing. Later she was joined to the producer Elías Querejeta , to the antique dealer – accused of drug trafficking – Flavio Labarca, and to Víctor Santiago Rubio.

Amparo Muñoz’s filmography is extensive and includes titles such as Al acecho , La intrusa , En penumbra , La reina del mate , El balcón abierto or Lulú de noche . In 1987, at the end of the shooting of the series Private life , she was arrested during an anti-drug operation.

She was also denounced for non-payment of bills, in 1990. After a time away from the screen, she was rescued by Paul Naschy , who gave her the leading role of Lycanthrope: The Full Moon Killer in 1996. That same year she participated in Photos , by Elio Quiroga , and he made what is perhaps his best work, en Familia , by Fernando León de Aranoa .
