Ami James was born on the 6 th April 1972 in Israel. Ami’s father was in the Israeli army. Her father left the family when she was only four years old. As a child, he lived in both Israel and Egypt. He has an American nationality and belongs to the white ethnicity.

James suffered from severe ADD, as a result he was drawn to art and tattoos at this young age. At the age of 11 or 12 he moved to the United States to live with his grandparents. Later, at the age of 12, he moved to Miami.
As a teenager, Ami James moved back to Israel and there, in the Israel Defense Forces, he completed his military service as a sniper. He got his first tattoo of him at the age of 15. It was the experience that made him determined to become a tattoo artist.

In 1992, Ami James began her training with a tattoo artist named Lou at Tattoos By Lou. He is the co-owner of Love Hate Tattoos in Miami Beach in Florida along with Chris Nunez. Along with Jesse Fleet and Nunez, he co-owns a clothing company called DeVille. With Nunez and two other friends, he also co-owns a nightclub Love Hate Lounge.
For Motorola’s RAZR V3 mobile phones, Ami James has created designs. Along with Boston jeweler Larry Weymouth, she has recently invested in a jewelry line called Love Hate Choppers Jewelry. She even hosted a reality show, Miami Link where she appeared along with Kat Von D but Kat later left due to arguments with Ami.
Ami ‘s new NY Ink show premiered on 2 North Dakota June 2011 and the second season of the show premiered in December 2011. The show aired until March 1 , 2012.
Ami James opened a tattoo studio called Love Hate Social Club in London in November 2012. The following year, for the Ink Not Mink campaign, she partnered with PETA. In the year 2013 on 9th May, Ami co-founded Tattoodo , which is an online platform to get customer a custom designed tattoo.
