Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), a company in the information technology industry, has announced the opening of its first office in Lagos, Nigeria.

The company’s Regional Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, Ms. Amrote Abdella, said in a statement on Tuesday that the office will help the company show its dedication to Africa.

According to Abdella, the opening of the new Lagos location was part of AWS’s effort to assist the country’s expanding customer and partner base.

AWS, an Amazon subsidiary, provides clients all over the world with website hosting, backup, analytics, digital marketing, application integration, blockchain, networking, and other related services.

“With a local presence, AWS will support new and existing customers looking to use AWS products and services to innovate, lower their information technology (IT) costs, and grow their organizations in the cloud.

“We are excited to open our first AWS office in Nigeria, Lagos offers a highly skilled and creative talent pool, and the area is home to many fast-growing startups and notable Nigerian enterprises leading the way in digital innovation.

“We look forward to fostering the country’s pioneering spirit and helping our customers accelerate their digital transformation as they deliver innovative new products and services to the Nigerian community,’’ Abdella said.

According to Abdella, AWS Activate offers entrepreneurs the tools they need to get started using AWS, including up to $100,000 in credits, training, support, and connections to incubators, accelerators, and venture capital firms.

According to her, AWS Academy facilitates the knowledge and skill development of university students, teachers, and other professionals in the field of AWS Cloud computing, hence accelerating the learning process.

Payhippo acquires Maritime Microfinance Bank

Meanwhile, Payhippo has acquired Maritime Microfinance Bank. Maritime Microfinance Bank (MFB), a financial institution that specializes in saving products, demand deposits, investments, and SME loans, has been purchased by Payhippo, a Nigerian fintech startup with an SME focus.

The deal is currently awaiting the Central Bank of Nigeria’s permission, according to a statement obtained by Nairametrics. The parties are cooperating to win the regulator’s blessing.

Payhippo to keep the talents of Maritime MFB: According to the company’s statement, Payhippo would afterward expand its team with seasoned experts from the MFB team. The experts will use their extensive experience to speed up Payhippo’s development.

Payhippo will continue its aim to increase access to finance for SMEs through digital technologies thanks in part to the considerable banking skills of the personnel from Maritime Microfinance Bank. Note that the acquisition will give Payhippo immediate access to the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS).
