Sobi Hills is a tourist centre located in Sobi Community in Ilorin.

The history of how the hills came to be is unknown, but according to studies, it is a site of prayer and where people feel they can interact with God.

Sobi Hills is also one of the nicest places in Ilorin to hang out and enjoy a picnic with family and friends. It provides a breathtaking view of nature.

Sobi Hills, at 394 meters above sea level, is Ilorin’s highest point. You can see practically every section of Ilorin city from the top. It’s named after the Sobi community in Ilorin, Kwara State. The hill, which is made up of two large rocks, is smooth and steep-sided, with a gently undulating savannah on top. It has two conical peaks, which are the result of two rocks colliding to make the hill.

People come here to worship frequently, and it’s one of the few sites in Nigeria where people of many religions peacefully coexist.

Christians and Muslims worshiping side by side, a church lies atop the hill, while a monument with an Islamic inscription sits nearby (which is the prayer side for the Muslims). To demarcate each worship location, stones at the top are stacked together.

It is close to the Sobi Barracks of the Nigerian Army’s 22 Brigade. The route leading to Kwara State University can readily be reached from Harmony Junction. It can be reached by a bush walk once you reach the top of the hill. You will be asked to remove your shoes before climbing because it is a “prayer hill.”

From the bottom of the hill, there is a white route that runs to the very top of the hill; if you follow it gently, you will reach the hills without difficulty.

As a result, it’s not surprise that the location was vital during the previous conflict periods.

The Sobi rock has distinct characteristics, such as marked white lines on some portions of the rock that lead to the highest point. These lines point the way to a simple technique to climb the rock. Before ascending the rock, it is also customary to take off one’s shoes at the base. This custom is followed by all visitors to the site, and it demonstrates a high level of respect for and cleanliness of the rock surface.

Different marked hollow spots on the rock are another feature. In the past, hunters and warriors reportedly used the spots to grind edibles such as pepper and other spices.

Sobi Hill is known for having an unrivaled view of Ilorin. Climbers are encouraged to do so for a variety of reasons, including the view, spiritual reasons, or simply to connect with nature.
