In the run-up to the Winter Olympics, she used to wake up around 7am. She used to spend 4 hours ice training. She also added another 2 hours of training on ice to her routine. On the weekends, she also liked to go on long hikes with her dogs.

She also followed a disciplined diet plan to ensure she gets the most out of her workouts. Her daily diet plan was as follows:

• Breakfast – Stoneyfield yogurt with blueberries, plain Cheerios, and coffee
• Lunch – Oatmeal with a little almond milk

Alexa Scimeca Knierim Facts

1. Alexa’s parents had to take out a second mortgage on their home to pay for her skating expenses.
2. In the early stages of her career, when she was not profiting from sports, she began adding rhinestones to girls’ outfits on the ice rink to supplement her income.
3. She began skating in 1998 and was coached by Sergei Telenkov and Trish Cazeau Brown in the early stages of her career.
4. She has 2 St. Bernard/Bernese Mountain dog mixes named Diesel and Cami, a gray tabby cat named Scarlet and a black longhair cat named Muffy.
5. At the 2018 Winter Olympics, she and Chris became the first married couple since 1988 to compete in pair skating. They managed to win the bronze medal in a team event as members of the US team.
6. In the spring of 2016 she collapsed with vomiting and stomach problems. She suffered all summer without finding a proper diagnosis. She was plagued by these problems even during her marriage. She was finally diagnosed with a gastrointestinal condition in August 2016. The first two surgeries failed to improve her condition. When she underwent her third surgical procedure, she wasn’t sure what form she would return to the rink in.
7. The earliest memories of her figure skating program come from the Park District. At first she didn’t know that it was a competitive sport and only got in for the freedom it offered.
8. Her pre-competition ritual begins with reading a card from her mother. Next, she ties her left skate, prays with the team, and follows up with a punch at Coach Dalilah.
9. If she hadn’t become a figure skater, she would have loved to be a dental hygienist for the kids.
10. In her free time, she loves to find a quiet place and read on her Kindle. She also enjoys fishing with her husband.
