Alejandro Sanz is a Spanish musician, singer and composer, best known as the winner of numerous awards such as the Latin Grammy Awards, Grammy Awards and the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year. At the age of 19 he released his first studio album Los Chulos Son Pa’ Cuidarlos (1989) which went relatively unnoticed. His next 4 albums – Viviendo Deprisa (1991), Básico (1993), Si Tú Me Miras (1993) and 3 (1995) did well commercially, but his fifth studio album entitled Mehr (1997) brought Alejandro greater international success . His 6th studio album, El Alma al Aire(2000) sold more than a million copies in its first week and in 2002 he recorded and released his second live album. MTV staked out, making Alejandro the first Spanish artist to accomplish this feat.

2. He recalled being more of a “group troubadour” among the kids he grew up with, as he wanted to play guitar and sing from an early age.
3. Alejandro’s father was a professional guitarist, which led him to play guitar as well.
4. His mother once broke his guitar because he kept her from sleeping because he practiced out loud in the early hours.
5. Alejandro wanted to be a professional flamenco performer, but quickly found out that the rules were strict, and instructors would be cruel if you got off the beat. Because of this, he decided to focus on his own music, but with flamenco influences.
6. His original stage name was Alejandro Mango, Spanish for “Alexander the Great”, a well-known Macedonian conqueror.
