Alan rickmann

For many fans Alan Rickman is above all Severus Snape, Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts School. But that’s just one role in a rich filmography where evil characters dominate.

Although he is not always the bad guy in the movie, it is true that Alan Rickman is an expert in embodying sinister and twisted types. His face refers to selfish cynics concocting deceit and evil, a bit in the style of classic actor George Sanders . They fit like a glove and there is nothing to do. In any case, this prestigious British actor seems to laugh at those bottled roles and often accentuates in his compositions a certain air of pathetic loser and even jinx, thereby adding a point of humor as his personal trademark.

Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman was born on February 21, 1946 in London, England. Second of four brothers, he is the son of a Welshman and an Irishwoman. His father passed away when he was only eight years old. After school, he studied Graphic Design in Chelsea, and three years later graduated from the Royal College of Art. At that institution he met Rima Horton, a woman with whom he has lived ever since, although they have never married. He entered the world of acting relatively late, attracted above all by the theater, where he worked for years, combining it during the 80s with appearances in television series. As he stood out on the tables playing Count Valmont, in 1987 he went to the casting to participate in the filmDangerous Liaisons , by Stephen Frears . But he ran out of the part, which went to John Malkovich . However, there is no harm that does not come for good, because his debut on the big screen brought him immediate success. It took place nothing more and nothing less than inDie Hard , where he played the wicked Hans Gruber, who kidnapped a skyscraper in New York and for whom Bruce Willis was going to become a nightmare. The British actor crafted a perfect character, a lousy villain who had aftershocks and outbursts of bad humor that generated a certain comedy.

The 90s were years of great harvest. He reprized a very Gruber-like role as the Sheriff of Nothingham inRobin Hood, Prince of Thieves (1991) and appeared in the sitcomCitizen Bob Roberts , by Tim Robbins . But he also began to excel in British films with more cachet, more elaborate dramas in which Rickman felt comfortable with mature roles. Thus they arrived With my eyes closed (1991), the biopic Mesmer (1994), and above allAn unusual adventure andSense and Sensibility , both from 1995 and where he coincided with Hugh Grant . Rickman’s versatility then became apparent and he acquired a certain cachet of a good actor. The following year he got into the skin ofRasputin , a telefilm where the best thing was its eccentric composition. In 1997 he tried to get behind the cameras inThe winter guest , which is so far his only film as a director. It was a deep drama, scripted by Rickman himself, set on the frigid Scottish coast and portraying the relationship between a mother and her widowed daughter, wonderfully played by Emma Thompson . Returning to acting, he shot the discreet thrillerJudas’s kiss (1998) and then showed his talent for comedy inHeroes out of orbit (1999).

From the beginning of the millennium the name and the face of Alan Rickman are related to the magical adventures of Harry Potter. His role as Severus Snape, present from the first partHarry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to the climax of the saga,Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2) , is one of the most sinister and memorable he has played. And between Potter films he has been able to make some films with great media coverage:Love Actually (2003), where he plays an adulterous husband caught by his wife (one of those sad pathos roles that he is so good at); YPerfume (2006), where he has to suffer the paternal consequences of the murderer Jean-Baptiste Grenouille. In 2007 and in 2009 he was signed by Tim Burton to play secondary roles of some importance in his films.Sweeney Todd, the evil barber of Fleet Street andAlice in Wonderland , respectively. And the next thing we will see from him will be Gambit , a thriller with comic overtones starring Cameron Díaz and Colin Firth .
