Akira Miyazaki

The rush is not good, as some media have learned, such as the Portuguese newspaper “Jornal de Noticias”, which announced in 2018 that Hayao Miyazaki, the greatest figure of Japanese animation, had died, and others that got involved to a greater or lesser extent.

In fact, on December 25 of that year, another figure with a distinguished career in this field in the field of scripts had died,  Akira Miyazaki , screenwriter of the  Moomins series , which has many followers (although not as many as  Spirited Away). ), at age 84, due to bile duct cancer. Both have in common that they are part of the generation of creators who diverted ‘anime’ to the realm of feelings, with which they conquered the world.

Born on October 27, 1934 in the country’s capital, Akira Miyazaki began his career as a feature film writer in the late 1969s with a live-action film,  Kigeki: Ippatsu Shobu , by the prolific Yoji Yamada. He soon moved into cartoons, notably with  1982’s  The Wizard of Oz and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer series , a moving adaptation of  Mark Twain ‘s book .

After co-producing  Alfred J. Kwak with the Netherlands , in 1990 he achieved the greatest recognition of his career with  The Moomins , based on the stories and comic strips by Finnish authors Tove and Lars Jansson.
