AJ Colby discovered at an early age that he wanted to become a meteorologist. AJ Colby began reporting local temperature and snowfall data to various media outlets, primarily to Fox 8 meteorologist André Bernier, when The Morning Show debuted in the winter of 1988
He was fortunate to have André as a mentor throughout his high school and college years, and beyond. In 2000, AJ began working full time in Cleveland and is now honored to serve as a weatherman at WJW Fox 8.
AJ had an incredible opportunity to start his career as a television weathercaster when he was just 16 years old at WSEE-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania, the local CBS affiliate.
Soon after, he was hired by WJW Television. It was an incredible way to create an unprecedented opportunity for a 19-year-old student.
AJ has had the honor of appearing on numerous Newscenter 8 newscasts, having the extraordinary opportunity to work with heavyweight characters like the legendary Dick Goddard, Robin Swoboda, Tim Taylor, Wilma Smith and André Bernier.

Cooler, more comfortable and drier
A much more comfortable air has settled in northeast Ohio. The sky was overcast for most of the day, but breaks in overcast are developing for the evening.
Temperatures will also be cooler and more comfortable overnight. Meanwhile, absolutely gorgeous weather is settling over Buckeye State with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
The mood will be quite cozy, especially considering the copious amounts of humidity we’ve been experiencing over the past week!

Extreme heat to continue until Saturday evening
CLEVELAND – Thursday was hot! And it will continue. Take a look at your FOX 8 hourly forecast for the night: EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNINGS are now in effect for our western counties (Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca, Wyandot, Crawford counties) until 8 p.m.
Saturday while EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCHES will come into effect from noon Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday too. Heat indices will reach 105-112° during this time. Stay calm! Relief will enter northeast Ohio starting Monday evening.
The windy evening followed by extreme heat
CLEVELAND – The remnants of Barry hit us with scattered showers and “tropical” showers/thunderstorms on Wednesday. Tonight the winds are blowing off the lake, bringing a bit of a breeze.
An EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH is in effect from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening. This was issued due to forecasts showing signs of heat indices reaching 105-112° during this period.
It wouldn’t be surprising if a HEAT ADVISORY was issued Thursday for parts of northeast Ohio! Stay tuned.
Rain and storms from the remains of Barry
Localized flooding is not out of the question. Rain and thunderstorms will continue until noon Wednesday before the drying process begins later in the day.
The second half of the week will be hot and humid and potentially turn into our first heatwave of 2019. As the temperature hits the low 90s, the heat index will climb to 105°. There is no relief until cooler, drier air arrives from Canada on Monday evening. Here is your latest 8-day forecast:
Some strong thunderstorms in the region
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Medina, Summit, and Wayne counties until 8:15 p.m., and Lorain, Erie, and Huron counties until 8:45 p.m. More weather alerts here today reached 90 degrees for the 8th time this year.
We should be able to hit the 10 year average fairly quickly, as we expect to hit 90° a few more times after Barry’s remnants pass. Monday night is expected to drop to around 70 degrees and remain partly cloudy and rise to the mid 80s through Tuesday.
Thunderstorms expected Saturday, conditions improving heading into next week
CLEVELAND – More heat, humidity and pop-up storms expected. Watch out for some soakers! Rain falling in buckets could lead to localized flooding.
We remain in this model until Saturday. There is a risk of scattered thunderstorms during this period of wet weather: mainly concentrated in the afternoon and early evening. Thunderstorms could be severe, but we don’t expect severe weather at this time.
