She was born as Aisha Naomi Tyler on September 18, 1970 in San Francisco, California, United States. She was born as the daughter of a teacher, Robin Gregory and James Tyler, a photographer. When she was 10, her parents divorced amicably and were raised by her father. She has a biological sister raised by their mother. Additionally, she has a nationality of American and mixed ethnicity of African American, English, and Scottish.
From a young age, she developed an interest in comedy, so she joined McAteer High School in San Francisco. In his special program called School of Arts, to pursue a career in acting. Additionally, she attended Dartmouth College and graduated with a degree in political science in 1992 and a minor in environmental policy.
