Again, Wike pledges ‘logistic support’ for Kwankwaso’s campaign

The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, vowed on Monday to provide Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNP’s presidential candidate, with logistical support for his campaign in Rivers State.

Kwankwaso is a friend and a man of integrity, according to Wike, who invited him to open the Mgbutanwo Internal Roads in the state’s Emohua Local Government Area.

Wike added that he was one of the few individuals who persuaded Kwankwaso, a former PDP member, to stay in the organization because he was aware of his value to the PDP, particularly in Kano State.

He said, “I remember when I went to meet you in your house in Abuja to plead with you not to leave the party (PDP) because I knew you were an asset to the party. Even when they told me to leave you alone, I refused.

“I have known you and I know you are a man of integrity so I want to say that whenever you want to campaign in Rivers State, I will provide you with all your logistics, just let me know when you want to come.”

On the project, Wike bragged that the road work began in June 2021 and was finished four months ago. He also said that he will be commissioning additional projects shortly.

“We just commissioned the ninth flyover last week and we will commission the 10th before the end of the year. We will also commission the 11th and 12th flyovers next year.

“I said I will turn Emuoha around, have I not done it? I brought the best construction company in Nigeria to construct this road.”

For months crisis has rocked the PDP as Wike and the G5 governors have demanded the resignation of the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, saying northerners should not be both the PDP national chairman and presidential candidate.

We earlier reported that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Thursday pledged to provide “logistics support” for the campaigns of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi within the state.

Wike also said Obi, a former Anambra State governor, has all the characteristics to lead Nigeria. The Rivers governor made this known to the LP presidential candidate in Port Harcourt, the state capital, at the venue of the Nkpolu-Oroworokwo Flyover inauguration.

“Each time you want to campaign in the state, let me know, all the logistics support, we will give to you,” Wike told Obi.

Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed were in the state capital to commission the 9th flyover by the present administration. They were excitedly received by a large crowd of their supporters known as ‘Obidients’.

For months, Wike and four other governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have demanded the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as PDP national chairman as a precondition to support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

While Wike and his allies have not been seen to campaign for Atiku, it is not clear whether they will support Obi or Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the contest for Aso Rock’s top job which has been described by analysts and keen observers as a three-horse race.
