AFRICAN UNION UNVEILS AFRIMA 2021 CALENDAR
The African Union has released the calendar of events for the upcoming 2021 edition of the All African Music Awards, in collaboration with the International Committee of the All African Music Awards, AFRIMA.
On June 23, 2021, the African Union office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, hosted the unveiling ceremony.
The unveiling activity marks the official start of AFRIMA 2021, which will run from June 20 to November 21, 2021, and will include a number of projects and events.
Mrs. Cisse Mariama Mohamed, Director of Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development for the African Union, said, “The COVID pandemic resulted in multiple setbacks for the continent, but AFRIMA is committed to uniting the continent through entertainment and honoring their tradition of celebrating Africa’s scintillating musical culture by featuring exhilarating musical performances.”
According to a document signed by Mrs. Mohamed, the submission of entries is the first official event on the AFRIMA calendar for 2021, and it officially opened, June 28, at 12:00noon Central African Time (CAT), to African music professionals on the continent and in the diaspora, and closes on Friday, August 20, 2021.
The AFRIMA website has more information on entry submission guidelines.
Songs and videos must have been made or released during the evaluation period, which runs from June 1, 2020 to August 20, 2021.
African musicians, managers, producers, record label owners, recording companies, video directors, Disc Jockeys, Choreographers/dancers, and international acts are all eligible to submit their work or submit on behalf of their clients via the official AFRIMA website www.afrima.org for a possible nomination in one or more of the forty (40) categories.
Other events on the calendar include a “Pre-Screening procedure,” in which submitted items will be evaluated by the AFRIMA Screening Committee.
The screening process would take place from August 21 to August 28, 2021, after which the AFRIMA Adjudication process would take place from August 29 to September 6, 2021, with the International Jury of AFRIMA, which consists of a 13-man panel of experienced, respected African music experts and practitioners.
The Adjudication procedure entails international jury members carefully evaluating and selecting the finest among submitted items to be included on the AFRIMA 2021 Nominees’ List.
After that, on September 7th, a ‘World Media Announcement of AFRIMA 2021 Nominees’ List will be held to publicly expose the African performers and works by Africans in Africa and the diaspora who have been nominated.
On September 8, the AFRIMA Academy, as well as African music fans and followers around the world, will begin voting in the ‘AFRIMA Public Voting’ process, which will take place on www.afrima.org. During this time, the 2021 nominees will receive votes that could lead to them being named winners in various categories of the awards. A recognized international auditing firm would oversee and audit the voting process, which closes 24 hours before the major awards event.
Finally, the major awards ceremony, which will take place in the host city from November 18th to November 2021, will be a three-day extravaganza of music, glamour, Afrocentrism, and entertainment. The event kicks off with a Welcome Soiree, then moves on to the AFRIMA Music Village, the Host City Tour, the Africa Music Business Summit, the private Nominees Party, and the live Awards Ceremony.
Fans of African music across the world can follow along and participate in the AFRIMA 2021 activities via social media, live streaming on the AFRIMA website, the AFRIMA App, and tuning in to one of the 84 AFRIMA partner television stations.
