Adam Driver
He is one of the great actors of today. Apparently specialized in modest films, with his presence he manages to make them acquire entity, although he often acts as secondary. He has even taken the measure of the Star Wars universe .
Adam Driver has taken to the extreme that characteristic of his to be a little out, the type that does not flinch and that goes at a slow, calm, amazing pace. Because his thing seems to be introverted characters, who on the outside resemble true jerks who make you want to shake them by the lapels. Several of his roles have had that label, although of course none like Paterson ‘s.. Rarely has someone so lacking in blood been seen on screen, but –and here comes the paradox– this actor is capable of giving an unprecedented power to that sleepy and listless state. In this way, he achieves that this vital indolence is not something fake but rather creates real characters, made of flesh and blood, that shake and captivate. Directors should see it that way because it is clear that few actors can say that in their first ten years of work they have shot with Clint Eastwood , Steven Spielberg , the Coen brothers , Jim Jarmusch , JJ Abrams or Martin Scorsese .
Born in San Diego, California, on November 19, 1983, Adam Douglas Driver does not have an extensive artistic career, having only been in the profession for ten years. His parents, Nancy and Joe, divorced when he was a child, and Adam stayed with his mother in Mishawaka, Indiana, with his stepfather, a Baptist minister. In addition to singing in the parish choir, at school he participated in plays, but his artistic career could have been cut short due to the attacks of September 11, 2001. And it is that after the tragedy the future actor enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he spent two years serving his country before being discharged from an injury that would prevent him from carrying out combat missions in the future.
His first jobs were for television. In 2009 she made her debut in an episode of the series The Unusuals and in 2010 she was part of the vast cast of the telefilm You Don’t Know Jack , starring Al Pacino. His first starring role came the same year, in the television sitcom The Wonderful Maladys , opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar . The jump to the cinema came the following year, when he put himself under the orders of Clint Eastwood in J. Edgar , his biopic of the famous FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. More minutes and importance in the plot gave him in 2012 Noah Baumbach in the comedy Frances Ha, where the actor accompanied one of the muses of indie cinema, Greta Gerwig . The same year, Adam joined the large cast of the fabulous Lincoln , Spielberg’s film about the mythical president of the United States. The Coen brothers also made use of his charisma in the extraordinary About Llewyn Davis (2013).
Until that moment Adam Driver had shown off embroidering small roles and his face was beginning to sound thanks to the fact that he was dealing with prestigious productions. As of 2013, however, he would gain a presence in the cinema. He came first with The Journey of Your Life , alongside Mia Wasikowska , and then in a series of films where Driver gained prominence, although they were not always great films, as in the case of his foray into terror with Hungry Hearts ( 2014). More quality has the dramatic comedy While we are young (2014), where the actor once again placed himself under Baumbach’s orders.
And then JJ Abrams arrived in 2015 and Adam Driver was given a role for which his face will always be remembered for generations: that of Kylo Ren from Star Wars: The Force Awakens . The Californian actor lived up to a difficult character, nothing less than the son of Han Solo seduced by the dark side. The casting was a success because Driver passed the test with flying colors and held his level two years later in the sequel Star Wars: The Last Jedi , this time directed by Rian Johnson . But between both galactic films came some memorable works. His urban, taciturn poet composition in Paterson, by Jim Jarmusch, in which he plays a highly sensitive bus driver, earned him great praise, as much as the Jesuit he gave life to in Silencio , by Scorsese, in which he accompanied the protagonist Andrew Garfield as a missionary on his trip to Japan .
After these more serious works, the actor has chosen roles with a humorous touch, in films that have been well received by the public, such is the case of Logan’s Luck or Infiltrated the KkKlan , which tells an unusual true story in the southern United States and for which Adam Driver has been nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor thanks to his role as an undercover police officer in the famous racist klan.
We’ll see what the future holds for Adam Driver. For now, it looks rosy in the short term, since in 2019 it will premiere The Report , a drama about the 9/11 investigations, and also another long-awaited galactic installment, episode IX of Star War . The actor married actress Joanne Tucker in 2013 .
