It’s no news that Wizkid is an afrobeat artist to reckon with. And as you may know, Afrobeat is a musical style that combines American funk, jazz, and soul elements with West African musical forms (such as highlife and traditional Yoruba music), with an emphasis on chanted vocals, intricate rhythms, and percussion.
Fela Kuti, a multi-instrumentalist and bandleader from Nigeria, created the style in the 1960s and is credited with popularizing it both inside and outside of Nigeria.
Afrobeats, a piece of music that originated in West Africa in the twenty-first century and draws on a variety of inspirations, is distinct from other sounds. It is an eclectic fusion of genres, including hip hop, house, Jùju, Ndombolo, R&B, and soca.
Despite being frequently confused, the two genres are not the same. With this, we can say Wizkid’s influence on the growth of afrobeat for over a decade can not be ruled out.
He has been great at sound and he is among the top artists that put sound in front of a global audience. That said, let’s discuss more on the top 10 achievements of Wizkid in 2022.
