Abubakar Sani Bello was born on December 17, 1967. He is the son and eldest child of Col. Sani Bello, the former military governor of Kano state in Nigeria (RTD). He attended ST. Loius Primary School in Kano from 1974 to 1979, Nigerian Military School from 1980 to 1985. And the University of Maiduguri from 1986 to 1991, where he earned a B.Sc in Economics. Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello won the APC gubernatorial primary in Niger State for the 2015 election. In the primary election, he garnered 3,829 votes, defeating Senator Musa Ibrahim. He later went on to win the general election with 593,709 votes. On April 13, 2015, INEC pronounced him the winner. He was re-elected Governor of Niger State on March 9, 2019.

At a State Executive Committee meeting on August 24, 2020, he backed a Reconciliation Committee and other committees, along with members of the National Assembly from the State led by Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi and other Party Chieftains.
