On Wednesday, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun visited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend his condolences to the staff following the passing of Niyi Ijalaye, the state’s resident electoral commissioner.
During his visit, Abiodun described Ijalaye as a kind, soft-spoken, and modest individual who consistently championed truth and fairness. He praised Ijalaye’s significant contributions to the advancement of democracy in the state and expressed deep sorrow over the loss.
“I want to appreciate this hard-working man because I recall all the events leading to our election, all the events during our elections, all the events post our election, and how calmly, how steadfast he was, and how steadfastly he held the commission to ensure that the commission took the path that was right and what was just,” he said
In her remarks, Mrs. Rabiat Titilayo Akinola, Director of Finance and Accounts for the Commission in the state, appealed for the state government’s assistance to support both the family of the late Niyi Ijalaye and the Commission during this period.
