1. During his childhood, Abby had many other activities besides dancing, including girl scouts, clarinet lessons and a ski club.
2. Not a fan of performances, she began her career as a dance choreographer at the age of 13.
3. By the time she was 14, she had opened her own dance studio, the Abby Lee Dance Company.
4. In 1995 she took over her mother’s studio, Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio, and rebranded it as Reign Dance Productions.
5. She filed for bankruptcy in December 2010 after it was revealed she had to pay more than $400,000 in back taxes.
6. In 1986, Abby became a member of the DanceMasters of Pennsylvania Chapter. However, her membership was canceled in February 2012 as the organization felt her reality show went against the essence of dance education.
7. In 2014, Paige Hyland, one of the dancers on the show Dance Moms , filed a lawsuit against Miller for assault. Hyland also filed an emotional distress lawsuit, which was eventually dismissed by the judge.
8. In October 2015, federal authorities charged her with fraud after it was discovered that she had opened a secret bank account to hide her earnings from various sources.
9. In May 2017, she was found guilty of fraud and received a year and a day in prison, followed by two years’ supervised release. She was also slapped with a $40,000 fine.
10. In October 2012, she launched her own reality show, Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition. The prize money for the show was $100,000 and the winner received a scholarship to the Joffrey Ballet School.
