He gained worldwide fame following his breakout role as the socially awkward, Kipling ‘Kip’ ‘Dynamite in the comedy film, Napoleon Dynamite . Aaron Ruell was born Derek Aaron Ruell on June 23, 1976 in Fresno, California. He is American and belongs to the White-American ethnicity.
Ruell attended Clovis West High School. He worked as missionaries for the Latter Day Saints (LDS Church) in Guatemala, but is no longer active in LDS. He also studied film at Brigham Young University.

Aaron Ruell began his career as a photographer. Later, he signed on to direct and made his directorial debut with a title sequence for Napoleon Dynamite in 2004.

Ruell also directed the most controversial commercial showing the Amish drag race between two horse-drawn wagons with balls of hay. The ad was taken off the air due to a dispute between Coke (which owns Powerade) and Pepsi (Gatorade), but the coke was eventually settled out of court.
