TikTok is rolling out voice comments, allowing some users to respond to videos with short audio recordings instead of typing, as the platform expands its comment features.

The rollout is gradual, meaning the microphone option may appear for some accounts before others.

Voice Notes Come To Comments

Users who have access to the feature can tap and hold the microphone icon beside the comment tools, record a message and release it to post the recording as a comment.

The voice note appears alongside the usual text, emoji and other comment replies, giving users another way to react to videos and join conversations.

TikTok has also introduced automatic transcription for the audio comments. After a recording is posted, a text version appears beneath the audio waveform.

TikTok Adds Transcription

The transcription could make voice comments easier to follow for users who browse with sound turned off and may also improve accessibility.

However, TikTok has not publicly provided full details on the accuracy of the transcription, the languages supported or whether users can edit or remove the automatically generated text.

Creators Get Control

TikTok has included controls that allow creators to manage how voice comments appear on their videos.

Creators can turn voice comments off, restrict them to followers or delete individual replies. Users can also report or mute comments they do not want to hear.

TikTok’s moderation systems can also detect harmful or infringing audio, although questions remain about how voice recordings are stored, how long they are retained and whether the recordings are used for artificial intelligence training.

Feature Builds On TikTok DMs

The move follows TikTok’s earlier expansion of voice communication. The platform introduced voice notes in direct messages in 2025, allowing recordings of up to 60 seconds, before expanding its messaging features to include voice and video calls.

Voice comments now take that audio experience beyond private conversations and into public comment sections.

Users Spotted Testing In May

Users first began noticing TikTok testing voice comments in May 2026, while the company moved towards a wider rollout by July.

The gradual release means users who do not yet see the microphone icon do not necessarily have a problem with their app. TikTok is continuing to make the feature available to accounts in stages.
