77K Payday Loading: NYSC Vows to Credit Ex-Corps Members Soon
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has promised that outgoing corps members will soon receive the outstanding balance of their revised N77,000 monthly allowance. This announcement comes in the wake of the federal government’s new minimum wage implementation.
Brigadier General Olakunle Akinlayo Nafiu, Director-General of the NYSC, made the assurance during the Batch A 2025 pre-mobilisation workshop in Abuja on Thursday. The event convened heads of corps-producing institutions and key stakeholders to address mobilisation reforms and lingering challenges.
Speaking confidently, Nafiu stated, “Even our corps members that just passed out will benefit. Once we receive cash backing for the arrears, we are going to credit them. We have their bank details.”
He reassured Nigerians of the government’s commitment, saying, “The government is both responsible and responsive to the needs of its citizens.”
This comes a month after the federal government began disbursing the updated N77,000 allowance to serving corps members—eight months after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the new minimum wage into law.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Abubakar, NYSC’s Director of Corps Mobilisation, expressed concern over ongoing malpractice in the mobilisation process. He noted that despite improvements, some institutions continue to submit unqualified graduates for service, a challenge that must be urgently tackled.
Adding his voice, Youth Development Minister Ayodele Olawande emphasized the need for NYSC to undergo a complete overhaul to meet modern realities. “The NYSC scheme, created in 1973, must evolve to prepare Nigerian graduates for today’s labour market,” he said, aligning his vision with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Also pledging support, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, represented by Youth and Sport Mandate Secretary Abdullahi Suleiman, reiterated the capital’s commitment to ensuring NYSC’s goals are met through continued partnership and collaboration.
