Despite the government’s stance, some famous names in the entertainment industry showcase their affection for the plant. While some stars are vocal about its medicinal properties, others reap the recreational benefits.

1. Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu (Burna Boy)

Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, or Burna Boy, a Grammy award-winning musician, tops Nigeria’s list of celebrities supporting marijuana use through his songs. In 2013, the Afrobeats sensation glorified the plant in a music video titled “Smoke Some Weed.”

The Nigerian star publicly displayed himself smoking in the presence of his mother, Bose Ogulu, on social media in 2020. He was on Instagram live exchanging blunts with a friend while dancing with his mom.

In 2022, he released a track titled “Igbo and Shayo,” indicating his need for weed and alcohol after suffering heartbreak.

Black Cannabis Magazine also recently announced Ogulu’s marijuana brand, BrkFst, which he launched in South Beach, Miami.

2. Oluseun Anikulapo (Seun) Kuti

In 2015, Kuti advised the government to research the uses of marijuana. After noting Nigeria has no basis for the ban, he launched THC, a T-shirt line promoting weed.

3. Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun (Wizkid)

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun is another Grammy award-winning Nigerian celebrity who enjoys showing his love for cannabis. Wizkid once showed affection for marijuana on a radio show.

Wizzy, or Starboy as fans often call him, told listeners he smokes weed and drinks a lot of water.

The singer habitually supports the herb on social media, especially Instagram. Before the release of Made in Lagos in 2020, Wizzy posted studio clips of him smoking hemp on the platform.
