Borno State is a Nigerian state bordered on the west by Yobe, on the southwest by Gombe, and on the south by Adamawa, while its eastern border forms part of the national border with Cameroon, its northern border forms part of the national border with Niger, and its northeastern border forms the entire national border with Chad, making it the only Nigerian state to border three countries.

Borno, in northeast Nigeria, is now known as the home of Boko Haram, an Islamist terrorist group whose insurgency poses a serious security danger, but it was originally the stronghold of the Kanuri-speaking royal empire of Kanem-Borno, which was renowned across Africa and beyond in its later iteration.

Babagana Umara Zulum is a politician and professor from Nigeria. He is the current Governor of Borno State, and he is running Governor of the state in 2019 on the platform of the All Progressive Congress.

Zulum resumed office on May 29th, 2019, and got right to work. Despite the Boko-Haram war that has ravaged the state, he has been able to achieve some extraordinary feats, spanning from security to infrastructure and social/human capital development.

Babagana completed 375 projects in his first year in office, 326 of which were physical projects and the remaining 49 were capital-intensive programs and policies. In response to the state’s security difficulties, he acquired and distributed 300 patrol vehicles to the state’s military and security services, formed a security trust fund, and built a quick security team and special protection component for farmers.
He also started a huge construction, repair, and remodeling project in the educational sector, involving hundreds of buildings in schools, there are blocks of classrooms, and offices.

In his first year in office, he completed 76 verified projects in 21 local government areas.

Under Zulum’s leadership, the health sector in Borno saw a significant shift. 46 physical initiatives in 19 LGAs helped the sector, with 37 of them being newly built primary, comprehensive, and maternity healthcare centers. The governor also purchased several pieces of world-class equipment as well as necessary pharmaceuticals for most of the state’s healthcare facilities.

Zulum started on a huge construction project of over 6000 dwelling units and placed transformers in rural areas across the LGAs in terms of infrastructure development. He also built and restored multiple vocational and skills development centers, as well as drilled hundreds of solar-powered boreholes in 12 LGAs, and 53 municipal structures were completed.

For the 2023 general election in Borno, Mohammed Jajari has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate.

In Borno’s primary election on Wednesday, Mr. Jajari received 487 votes to overcome Mohammed Imam’s 362 votes.

Mr. Jajari was declared the winner of the primary election having scored 487 votes.
