172 students rescue in Kaduna abduction, many still missing

The Kaduna State Government has revealed that 180 citizens abducted by Gunmen were rescued by the Troops in the State on Friday.

The state said the people were abducted from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A statement issued by Samuel Aruwan, state Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs, shows that 130 male students, 42 female students and eight staff were rescued.

Aruwan said about 30 students, a mix of males and females, are yet to be accounted for.

The statement said, “Troops of the Nigerian Army in the early hours of today, Friday, 12th March 2021 rescued 180 citizens, many of them students, at the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, Igabi local government area of Kaduna State.

“The armed bandits in large numbers had attacked the institution at around 11:30 pm on Thursday and kidnapped several students and staff.

“The armed bandits broke into the institution by breaching a perimeter fence. They then encroached about 600 meters to attack the first facility.

However, troops of the Army invade the school and faced the bandits in which 180 citizens were rescued, injured ones are in the hospital receiving treatment in a military facility.

Kaduna State Governor commends the troop for their swift action in rescuing 180 citizens, he also wishes the injured ones quick recovery.
