10 Athletes Who Smoke Pot by Bleacher Report
Kenny Britt – NFL player
Smoking weed isn’t the only thing Kenny has done in the past. He and his friend were arrested in 2011 and charged with marijuana possession. However, they tried to escape and were pursued by the police. Britt didn’t care at all about his reputation as the arrest wasn’t his first and certainly won’t be his last. A few months later he was also arrested in Hoboken. Kenny resisted arrests both times.
Carmelo Anthony – NBA player
While Carmelo was playing for the Denver Nuggets, the team visited another city on the team plane. An NBA superstar like Carmelo should have avoided boarding a plane with a pack of weed in his backpack. Security forces caught him and he found it’s not his pot but his friend left it in the backpack. For this incident, Anthony was fined $100 and not jailed.
Randy Moss – NFL player
Here’s an athlete who fearlessly admitted his pot-smoking sessions in an interview for HBO in 2005. There’s a strong chance he hasn’t quit smoking weed, but he also said the abuse wasn’t his goal was. Randy’s agent was not at all happy with HBO’s decision to go on air with this athlete’s confession, accusing them of damaging his client’s career. But the damage had been done.
Bill Walton – NBA player
The two-time NBA champion is a very household name when it comes to smoking weed. Many consider him a true hippie since he lived and enjoyed marijuana in the 70’s. His UCLA coach, John Wooden, confirmed that he was the only player allowed to smoke weed. Aside from his pot adventures, he is well informed about the legalization of marijuana. Bill is also an activist.
Michael Vick – NFL player
Michael did something similar at the airport as Carmelo did earlier at the airport. In 2007, Vick was caught with a water bottle that appeared to contain weeds. He was unwilling to hand over the bottle to the authorities and there are no specific accounts of his action. The awkward situation happened at the Miami airport.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – NBA player
NBA fans are probably aware of Kareem’s smoking sessions, as he has been for decades. Of course, he doesn’t make it illegal because the state of California only offers marijuana for medicinal purposes. The retired Lakers superstar has been dealing with nausea-causing migraines and it’s not uncommon for the public to know about his pot adventures. However, there is also illegal activity in 2000 when he was caught by police driving under the influence of weed.
Michael Phelps – Schwimmer
It can be devastating when an athlete is caught smoking weed. Michael’s image of what appeared to be him inhaling from a weed pipe flooded the internet in 2009. The photo cost him dearly as the swimmer lost a key sponsorship deal and was suspended from competitions for three months. Phelps is one of the best swimmers in the world and this picture cost him his reputation.
Santonio Holmes – NFL player
Holmes didn’t take care of himself in the middle of his football season. In 2008, police stopped him near Mellon Arena and caught him with three weed-filled cigars. Santonio admitted he smoked weed, but not at the moment. Because it was a small amount of marijuana, the police officers let him go, but he was still barred from playing for his team.
Tim Lincecum – MLB player
In 2009, Tim was stopped for speeding on Interstate 5 in Hazel Dell by Washington police. However, they didn’t expect any other problem. As Tim rolled down the window, the officer smelled marijuana and found 3.3 grams of weed in his car. Since it was not illegal to possess this amount of the drug, no serious action was taken. Tim was charged with speeding and marijuana possession that day.
Ricky Williams – NFL player
It is strange that weeds work well with the athlete’s performance on the field. In 2014, Ricky said he no longer smokes pot, but he did in the past because it helped him perform better. The bad side is that he now has to deal with the bad reputation for a long time. He was suspended twice and failed many tests in his NFL career.
