Who is Zion & Lennox?

Zion & Lennox is a musical duo of the urban genre made up of Félix Gerardo Ortiz “Zion” and Gabriel Enrique Pizarro “Lennox” , who throughout their career have been considered the founding fathers of Romantic Reggaeton for songs like ” I lose the head, Again, I fall in love, The Player, I’m sorry today” , among many more. The Zion & Lennox group was founded at the end of 2000 in Carolina, Puerto Rico and is currently still considered one of the greatest exponents of reggaeton in the world.

Beginnings in the life of Zion & Lennox

Zion & Lennox is a musical duo that is dedicated to the reggaeton genre. Its beginnings have been located at the beginning of the first decade of the present XXI century. They are originally from Carolina, Puerto Rico. Their real names are Félix Gerardo Ortiz (whose stage name is Zion) and Gabriel Enrique Pizarro (known in the world of musical entertainment as Lennox). 

We are aware that Zion & Lennox They met around the year 1998, when they were neighbors and became friends by coinciding in their tastes for music located in the genres of hip hop, reggae and dancehall. This is how the beginnings of their artistic career are considered to be in the year 2001, when Lennox’s brother, known by the stage name of Mackie Ranks, invited them to sing an official song. We must point out that prior to the stage names with which we currently know them, Ortiz called himself Indio, while Pizarro used the nickname Shakka Dan. This is how in various interviews, Ortiz has commented on the choice of his first stage names that when his nickname was Indio, he had the feeling that something was missing to complete it, until the word Zion came to be the perfect complement, being that this term means “sacred or positive place”. While Pizarro chose his stage name because of a movie that featured several hip hop singers, in his own words: “I really liked the sound of it and also, I had chemistry with the name Zion.” The movie he is referring to is calledBelly , directed by Hype Williams.

The first song they performed together,  Zion & Lennox,  was known under the title “I’m waiting”, and that is how they began to be given important opportunities in the world of musical entertainment. 

The following year, in 2002, Zion & Lennox  released their first album called The Godfather , which had the famous Héctor el Bambino as executive producer, this album being the one that made them make their great leap to fame. 

Trajectory and history of Zion & Lennox

A little later, in 2003, Desafío was released , a record that made Zion & Lennox  known to the international public. We cannot forget that it was in that same year that they added to their artistic career the productions of: Blin Blin Vol. 1, Más Flow and The Noise: La Biografía . 

Subsequently, in 2004, Zion & Lennox  published their first international studio album known as Motivando a la Yal , whose success was such that the following year, in 2005, they presented a new edition of the same album. Among the most important musical themes that were included in this production, we must point out the titles: “Yo voy”, “Doncella” and “Bandida”. While the album Motivating the Yal: Special EditionThey highlighted: “Hasta abajo”, “Ahora”, “Bandida”, “Yo voy”, “Jump and Spread Out” and “Where are the mommies?” We cannot ignore the fact that at that time both had formed their own record label, although each on their own. Zion’s company was called Baby Records, while Lennox’s was known as Toma Enterprises. They also had a company together, which they used to publish their records, this company was known by the name of Coexistence Records. In addition, it was also in 2005 when they toured different cities in the United States, among which we can mention: Miami, Connecticut, New York, Orlando, and many others. 

Already for the month of April 2006, it is our knowledge that Zion & Lennox  ended their contract with the record company called White Lion. Soon after they collaborated on the albums Abusando del Género and Chosen Few II . 

It was the following year, in 2007, Zion & Lennox  announced their separation, in that same year Zion published his first solo album, which was known under the title of The Perfect Melody . A little later they collaborated again as a duo on some famous musical themes such as: “María” and “Una cita”. While Lennox, for his part, collaborated with various artists, among whom we can point out La Sista, Yaga and Mackie and  Arcángel . They officially returned as a musical duo in 2009, launching the songs called: “Calor” and “Amor genuino”, which are included in the album Pa’la calle mixtape. We cannot forget that it was the same way in 2009 when they collaborated with the famous singer named Tito el Bambino for his album De él El Patrón , specifically with the musical theme entitled “My bed smells like you”. 

Later, in 2010, Zion & Lennox  signed a contract with Pina Records, and under this record label the duo released an album called Los verdaderos . In 2011 they collaborated with RKM & Ken-Y for their album called Forever . Soon after, they published the collaborative album with members of Pina Records called La formula . 

Subsequently, Zion & Lennox  stood out with the song “La Diosa de los corazones”, a song that ranked first on the list called Hot Latin Songs. While La Fórmula ‘s album was in first position on the Billboard Top Latin Albums list; in addition to receiving three nominations at the Latin Billboard Awards, as well as at the Lo Nuestro Awards with the category “album of the year”. 

A little later, in 2013, Zion & Lennox  released the single from “La botella”, back in October. While already in the middle of the year 2014 they released the mixtape of Los diamonds black . 

Two years later, Zion & Lennox  released the song “I Lose My Head”. Soon after, in 2016, they stood out for being nominated at the Latin Billboard Awards with the categories of: “airplay song of the year”, “latin rhythm song”, “duo artist of the year” and “latin rhythm songs”. We must point out that by this time they had had some altercations with the members of Pina Records, so towards the end of December 2016 they signed a contract with Warner Music Latina. This is how the Motivan2 album came to be . 

What We Know About  Zion & Lennox ‘s Troubles with Pina Records, is that it all started when in the development of the Dragmania event in Orlando, Florida, Zion had a fight with the CEO of Pina Records, whom he even hit, or what the attacked asked the security members to take away to Zion from flirting. Shortly after, a photograph was published on Instagram where the CEO, named Rafael, nicknamed Raphy, showed the hard blow that Zion had dealt him. A little later, Ortiz launched a lawsuit against Pina Records with the accusations of breach of contract, collection of money, in addition to contractual damages and damages. However, for the month of February 2015 it was announced that they had already ironed out rough edges with Pina Records and even participated in the tour that was called All Ages Concert. Then they joined the guys from CNCOfor the song “Reggaetón Lento (Bailemos) (Remix)”.

The following year, in 2018, Zion & Lennox  published the single “Hypnosis”, while signing a contract with management Magnus, the company of the artist Marc Anthony. While in 2019 they stood out for the publication of the song “Guayo”, another great success was the song “La Curiosidad (Red Grand Prix Remix)” with  Becky G ,  Jay Wheeler  and  Myke Towers .

Zion prefers to keep details of his life private, however, in 2016, he commented that he was dating someone and published some photos with his two children, Sean and Yeriell. In an interview in 2007, she talked about her relationship with them, as well as mentioning her adoptive son, receiving guardianship from her after her birth. 

On the other hand, it is known that Lennox in 2019 announced the divorce with Mónica Cintrón, who was his wife for more than 17 years. However, in 2021, the reggaeton player announced the birth of his first daughter Estefanía Gabriela, which he procreated with his current partner.
