Weekly Biography

Beginnings of Weekly

Weeekly is the name of an all-female K-pop music group . The names of its members are: Soojin (group leader), Jiyoon, MONDAY, Soeun, Jaehee, Jihan and Zoa. What we know about their story is that Soojin, Jiyoon, and Soeun participated in the survival reality show Mix Nine on JTBC.

At that time, Soojin was shown as the leader of the female contestants Weeekly , however, on the date of January 8, 2018, she was forced to leave the competition due to an injury caused by a car accident, for which she had to to undergo emergency surgery.

Some time later, for the month of October, the company Fave Entertainment announced that it planned to launch the debut of a new musical group made up of all women, who were temporarily given the stage name of “Favegirls”, whose members They were: Soojin, Jiyoon, Monday, Soeun, and Jaehee.

The following year, in 2019, on April 1, it became public knowledge that the group would be called “PlayM Girls”, this due to the merger of Fave Entertainment with Plan A Entertainment, from which a new company was born. that it was given the name Play M Entertainment, although that would not be its final name either.

Weeekly’s career and history

On May 8, 2020, the new company Play M Entertainment confirmed the debut of the group PlayM Girls for the month of June, but a few days later it was revealed that the official name of the group would be ” Weeekly ” and would include the 7 members we already know, also making their profile pictures known.

It was like this that on the date of June 12, the Weeekly girls debuted with their first mini album that they gave the title of We Are, which was released on June 30, 2020 along with the music video for their title song titled as “Tag Me (@Me)”. Subsequently, the mini album We Are was made available for digital download, with Jiyoon being highly recognized in particular because she was in charge of composing two of the most popular songs on the mini album.

That same day, the Weeekly group held a press conference. It is important to mention that originally, the Weeekly girls had planned to present their live debut on V Live, however, a terrible unforeseen event occurred, and that is that a fire occurred near the place where the presentation would take place. , so the event had to be cancelled.

A little later, on August 23, Play M Entertainment made the official announcement that Weeekly ‘s fan club name would be “Daileee”.

It was during the past year 2020 that Weeekly performed the song “Boom Chi Ki”, which became the theme song for the variety show known as My Dream is Ryan, on Kakao TV. This song was unveiled on September 25. While on October 13 they launched what was their second mini album, the same one that they gave the title of We Can, whose most successful song was “Zig Zag”, in whose music video we can see a choreography in the members of the musical group move cubes across the stage.

We cannot ignore his participation in radio programs: Jun Hyosung’s Dreaming Radio, Ogu-ogu Dol Bogu Show, Question Mark, Avegirls, Young Street, Idol Night, Cultwo Show, Arirang Radio K-pop, Idol Night and Idol Radio. They also held a concert at the Suwon Hwaseong Fortess, a huge success for  Weeekly.

Already with several successes on their way, the members of Weeekly  released their third EP known as We Play in May 2021, whose main song was “After School”, a pop song mixed with reggae and trap beats, and the lyrics are about spending time with friends after school.

Choreography of skateboards and urban styles were included in the music video. After the release of this song, they reached number 13 on Bugs, while their sales exceeded those of their previous releases, so that they sold more than 20 thousand copies during the first weeks after the release.

“After School” reached more than 60 million views on YouTube in a short time and continued to rise, in addition, “After School” ranked 21st on “Billboard’s World Digital Song” thus consolidating his musical career. They would later release “7days Tension” a catchy summer song that brought the Weeekly members’ bubbly charms to life .
