María Guadalupe Jones Garay, artistically known as Lupita Jones ; She was born on September 6, 1967 in Mexicali, Baja California Norte. She is the daughter of Rolando Jones and María Dolores Garay. She studied Business Administration and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1989. Shortly after she did a postgraduate degree in Industrial Administration at CETYS in Mexicali.

In the year 1991 Lupita Jones  was the representative of Mexico in the Miss Universe pageant, which was held in Las Vegas, in the state of Nevada, United States. At that time Lupita Jones  was the winner of the contest and this represented her being the first Mexican to obtain said title.

In 1993, she published what would be her first book called Palabra de Reina, in which she gives an account of everything she experienced as the winner of the Miss Universe contest that made her the first Mexican with this distinction. Lupita Jones  also told how she had to be very persistent and make a constant effort to achieve that distinction.

In 1994 , Lupita Jones  founded the company known as Promocertamen , in charge of organizing and creating the contest that we know today as Nuestra Belleza México ; project with which she achieved numerous successes from the beginning and promoted the beauty of Mexican women internationally. Thus, she gave young Mexican women the opportunity to participate in the Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International contests.

In 1997 Lupita Jones  was the creator of the first beauty pageant for men in our country, which she named El Modelo México, for which she obtained representation for the Mr. World international male beauty pageant. The following year  Lupita Jones would create the contest named Nuestra Belleza Infantil, on the occasion of her appointment as “Ambassador of Dreams” due to the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the launch of the Barbie doll by the toy company Mattel.

On October 23, 2000, the United Nations Population Fund named Lupita Jones  “Goodwill Ambassador” in a special program known as Face to Face, whose main objective is to promote the defense of the human rights of women. Here we must point out that what made her worthy of this appointment was the recognition of her persistence and her effort in the search for recognition of the dignity and importance of the role of today’s women in society.

This distinction made her reinforce her work that had already begun previously in Nuestra Belleza México with the firm intention of providing help to girls who are victims of abuse, for this she created the Institution Ayuda y Solidaridad con las Niñas de la Calle IAP ; whose help consists of carrying messages that aim to reinforce self-esteem, self-confidence and the desire for personal improvement and hope for the future of these girls, so that they can reintegrate into society with a positive attitude.

It was in August 2003 when she was introduced as the first ambassador of Mexican nationality for LÓréal Paris, placing her alongside great internationally famous figures such as Heather Locklear, Mila Jovovich and Andie MacDowell. It has been said that among the qualities they saw in  Lupita Jones to choose her with this appointment were hers: her charisma, beauty culture, sophistication, intelligence, personal charm, modernity and self-confidence.

In 2005, Lupita Jones  was invited to be a spokesperson for what would be the first national crusade against the terrible diseases of bulimia and anorexia, known as Say no to Size Zero, which was intended to make the population aware of the existence of these disorders and the importance of having sufficient information to prevent them, or, where appropriate, to be detected in time.

A year later, in 2006, a life-size figure made of wax that represented Lupita Jones  was placed in the Mexico City Wax Museum, with the aim of commemorating that 15 years had passed since she was elected. as the first Mexican Miss Universe. This fact meant for her and for the world to be the first Miss Universe with a commemorative wax figure. By November of this same year, she published a book under the title of Bella y en Forma, XV años después, in which she gives self-esteem and beauty advice, the same ones that she has had as precepts since she won that Miss Universe contest.

The following year, in the Miss Universe 2007 contest, which was held in Mexico City, Lupita Jones  hosted the program MU 007, Buscando a Miss Universo, which was produced by Televisa, and which consisted of a series composed for 10 programs in which the behind the scenes of the contest was revealed. In 2008 she was chosen as the Jury of Nuestra Belleza Latina, a reality show that was produced by Univision, in Miami, Florida, United States.

In 2010, on August 23, Lupita Jones  crowned Ximena Navarrete, who that year won the Miss Universe title. The following year, in 2011, he would publish his third book entitled Stop time: 9 anti-aging tools for your health and beauty, a collaborative work with Diego Di Marco, and which is based on interviews with 14 medical specialists in anti-aging medicine. This book was published by Editorial Urano, in Spain, and had high sales in 17 Latin American countries, as well as the United States and Spain.

At the beginning of 2020, Lupita Jones would again be the target of harsh criticism when she ran as a candidate for the governorship of her state of Baja California with the PRI, PAN and PRD alliance. Regarding her desire to be part of politics, she commented: “I have had to be in decision-making positions (…) I consider myself a person who has tried to build a platform for development and growth for women in Mexico, with comprehensive preparation , with international projection, and that is my vision of things that everything can be achieved” , said the flag bearer of the Va por México alliance.

On May 16, 2021, the great Miss Universe 2021 event took place and after an arduous competition where the most beautiful women in the world met to crown not only the most beautiful but also the most prepared. Andrea Meza  became the winner of Miss Universe 2021, thus managing to enter the elite of beauty queens and becoming the third Mexican to achieve the distinction of Miss Universe, previously achieved by  Lupita Jones  and Sofía Aragón .
