Who is Lasso?

Andrés Vicente de Jesús Lazo Uslar , better known as Lasso , is a singer and composer born on February 18, 1988, in Caracas, Venezuela. He is currently one of the great exponents of pop in his country and who has managed to transcend borders with his music reaching to several Latin American countries.

Lasso is the son of Carolina Uslar and the film director, comedian and radio host, Henrique Lazo, brother of Mimí Lazo who is also very popular.

When he was a child, Lasso always showed a great taste for music, so much so that when there were family gatherings or parties at his house, he would sign up to entertain them and sing for all the guests and thus entertain them, but above all to show the great talent he had. As if that were not enough, when his school had talent or musical contests, he was always at the bottom of the canyon to be a participant and also to be able to bring out his passion for music.

Another of his great tastes in life was always soccer and although at first he also thought of that sport as a profession, he decided to choose to build his life in relation to the art of music, so an electric guitar and his father were the accomplices. of this talented artist in order to achieve sufficient quality and the necessary stages to jump into the ring and begin to make a name for himself in the world of music.

Beginnings in Lasso’s musical career

At first, he did not think of himself as a solo singer, but at the age of 15 he decided to create a band he called Punk Society.

Despite the youth of its members, they came to open concerts for established bands such as the 3 Dueños and the Mexican Panda; they also participated in intercollegiate New Bands, winning best rock band in one of them, however due to some personal issues that band did not finish fruitful so only a year later Lasso would create another band with his friends called Karnavali , which had so much success that managed to be selected as a revelation group by the Invisible Friends at the 2008 Doritos Rock Festival , and also chosen as a finalist to play at the prestigious Nuevas Bandas Festival of the same year, without a doubt it was a good start in his career as he began to break through the competitive world of music and with excellent results.

A year later, Lasso decided that it was time to taste the sweetness of success but alone , so with the help of his guitar he began to compose random musical themes, with no particular theme other than being honest with himself and being able to transmit all his feelings into a piece of music that he would eventually compile to create a complete record.

The musical genre in which this youth proposal moves is defined as Pop-rock , however influences of Latin rhythms such as reggae, and other European ones such as flamenco are heard. His influences in music have been other singers who have fused pop with rock: “My musical influences are Julieta Venegas, Maná, Gustavo Cerati , I think more than all that rock with pop overtones,” he commented in a recent interview.

Lasso goes solo

“No Pares de Bailar” was the song that he decided to be his letter of introduction in music, it was released with a music video filmed in November 2010. The musical theme was written by Lasso and the video was made with the support of his father who was always with him supporting all of Lasso’s follies in this new facet as a solo singer. The producer was Paolo Merlini, Carolina Uslar as art director, and Rodolfo Bear as photographer.

“No Pares de Bailar” became number one on several radio stations, which helped boost his album titled “Sin Otro Sentido” which became a sales success and at the end of the year it was consolidated as one of the most popular Latin albums. sold in the year of its release, something that undoubtedly ended up surprising Lasso.

Along with the premiere of his first album, Lasso decided to try his hand at acting and did so in the Televen soap opera, Nacer Contigo, in 2012. The soap opera was an adaptation of the novel La Celestina , original by Fernando de Rojas, and as Lasso was a singer, she was fortunate to participate in the soundtrack of the soap opera, with the song “Te veo” which was also the third promotional single from her first record material. The success of the soap opera helped the song to reach the first place of radio hits and made the album even more sold.

In January 2015, and after having shown that his success was not something ephemeral or temporary, he signed a record contract with Universal Music, with which he released his second studio album, Diferente . In March 2015, Lasso reissued his single “Te Veo” that was not known in many parts of the world except in Venezuela, so he re-released it with the support of his record label so that in various parts of Latin America they could know it, which is why which Lasso decided to leave his native country to settle in Mexico with the hope of hitting harder.

The album received very good reviews at the end of its promotion and sales were quite satisfactory for a practically new artist. In 2019 he released the song “A million like you” with the Chilean singer Camila Gallardo, which was a great success for his career. From this moment on, Lasso began to merge his own musical style with a much more urban touch due to the growing demand for this genre all over the world, for which he had to adapt to this emerging genre.On September 27, 2019, Lasso together with Danna Paola released the song “Subtítulos” which was promoted with a photograph with the phrase “How I would like your heart to come with subtitles” . The song was a success in Venezuela and Mexico, where the two singers are from. Until then Lasso had won three major music awards, in 2012 he won the Pepsi Music Awards for the best video of the year, in 2013 he won the best pop album of the year at the same award and in 2015 at the Heat Music Latin Awards won Best Pop-Rock Artist.

In February 2020, the singer Lasso and Cami achieved millions of visits with ‘Odio Que No Te Odio’  This song together with Cami on the song ‘Odio que no te odio’ , achieved 8 million productions on YouTube in less than a month, On this subject, the singer Lasso commented: “I made this song in collaboration with Cami and it has gone very well for us. She is someone that I admire a lot, that I like to sing with her, we already do two songs. I learn a lot from her and she allows her fans to get to know me and vice versa. In the last single I had the opportunity to work with Danna Paolawith the theme ‘Títulos’ and in the future I would like to work with Natalia Lafourcade, I feel that she is not pigeonholed in any genre and is not obliged to do anything”.
