Who is Jessi?

Jessica Hyunju Ho  better known as Jessica HO or simply Jessi is an American rapper and songwriter exponent of kpop with rap fusions , who has participated in popular Korean television shows, such as Unpretty Rapstar and High School Rapper and achieving great musical successes such as; Spirit Animal, Gucci, Drip, Wet, What type of X, Numb, among others. Rapper Jessi was born on December 17, 1988 in New York, United States and is currently considered one of the most successful rappers in Korea.

Beginnings in Jessi’s life

Jessica Hyunju Ho, better known in the world of musical entertainment as Jessi, was born on December 17, 1988 in New York City, United States, although she is of Korean descent. It is our knowledge that she successfully auditioned for SM Entertainment. However, she finally decided that she would not be part of said company since she considered that her approach to music was not consistent with the style that she had.

When she moved to her ancestors’ homelands, Jessi had some trouble adjusting to Korean culture, which is why she didn’t find success after her debut, and was sometimes forced to sleep in saunas when she didn’t have enough money. to pay for a place like a hotel or rent.

During this period of time, in 2013, the singer Jessi was involved in a controversy due to her alleged participation in an assault, however, the victim quickly withdrew the charges against her, and the judicial investigation was closed.

After a period of inactivity in the artistic world that lasted 5 years, Jessi  returned in 2014 as a member of the trio dedicated to the hip hop genre known as Lucky J, which, in addition to her, was made up of J’ Kyun and J-Yo.

It is our knowledge that this group made their debut with the song “Can you hear me” with the YMC Entertainment label back in July 2014. While for the month of August they appeared on the music contest program of Mnet called Immortal Song 2.

Later, on December 31, Jessi collaborated with artists Ailee and Hyolyn to perform the song “Bang Bang” on the MBC music show Gayo Daejejeon.

The following year, in 2015, he was part of the cast of the television series called Unpretty Rapstar, in a period that spanned from January to March. What we know about this production is that it is a female survival reality show in which the contestants compete for their songs to appear at the end of a compilation album. After her participation in this program, Jessi released the single “Who’s your Mama?” Along with the music video for it in April, the original song was performed for the first time by artist J, Y Park. We must emphasize that this single was in first position in the nine main music charts in South Korea just a short time after its release.

It was in this way that throughout 2015, Jessi appeared as a guest artist on different television programs, which undoubtedly helped her boost her artistic career. In this way, on the date of September 15, she released what was her first rap single as a soloist, to which she gave the title “Ssenunni”.

For the month of October, he made his first live appearance in the United States at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, together with the hip hop duo called Mighty Mouth. A short time later, when the show Unpretty Rapstar 2 aired, Jessi appeared as one of the mentors. We cannot ignore the fact that she, together with the artist Cheetah, performed songs that were produced by Verbal Jint in this program. Later, in the month of December of that year 2015, Jessi appeared at the Mnet Asian Music Awards with the rap song known as “Ssenunni”.

While for the year 2018 he was the protagonist of Yo! MTV Raps, a program that was broadcast by MTV Asia on the date of July 6. We cannot forget that it was on that same day that he released the single “Down” and for the month of October 2018 his contract with YMC Entertainment came to an end, so that for the month of January 2019, Jessi signed with the company PSY, P-Nation.

That was how Jessi  released the single “Who Dat B” with her new record label, on the date of September 23, 2019. For November she presented the song “Drip”, in which she collaborated with the artist Jay Park.
