Who are the CNCO band?

CNCO (pronounced as each of the letters in English “ciencio” sounds) is a musical group of boys who began their musical career in 2015, it is made up of  Richard Camacho , Joel Pimentel , Christopher Vélez , Erick Brian and Zabdiel De Jesús who were contestants and winners of the reality talent show “La Banda” broadcast by Univisión and produced by Simon Cowell and Ricky Martin , in which several youngsters from different parts of the United States and Puerto Rico participated so that in the end the best were part of this project which immediately achieved impressive international success. In May 2021 Joel Pimentel  announced his departure from  CNCO .

Once the members of CNCO won the reality show, they received as a reward an artistic contract from Sony Music Latin and the unconditional support of Puerto Rican Ricky Martin , one of the executive producers and judges of the program. Ricky Martin became CNCO’s manager and stated that he would do everything on his part to make it a musical success: “My team and I are very happy and proud to be part of his promising career in the music industry. There is a lot of work to be done and I feel that they are ready for it” , said Ricky Martin.

His first song was “The Winning Song”, produced by Wisín, which was immediately released on iTunes but did not have much resonance; It was not until their first official single “Tan fácil” with which they managed to reach the first places of popularity in various parts of Latin America.

On January 29, 2016, they released their first song that made them known entitled, “Tan Fácil” , which debuted on several radio charts but the most surprising thing is that it reached position 1 on the Billboard “Airplay Latin” chart. “. By January 30, 2016, they held their first concert at The Fillmore Miami Beach.

They began their tour on February 12 as opening acts on Ricky Martin’s One World Tour for some of his shows in the United States, including Hollywood, Florida and San Juan, Puerto Rico, as well as South American countries such as Chile and Argentina. .

On May 13, they released their second single ” I would like “, which, although it did not achieve the success of their first song, did further consolidate the small musical career that these boys had.

Surprisingly, CNCO was nominated for six Youth Awards and managed to win five statuettes.

Given the success of their career, they released their first album, Primera Cita, on August 26, 2016, in which they included fourteen songs and an urban remix of “Tan Fácil” with Wisin and the song “Quisiera” with the Spanish singer Abraham Mateo .

“Reggaetón Lento” , a single to dance and fall in love with, was released as part of their second musical album, a song that undoubtedly led them to the horns of the moon as it was a great success in many countries. “Hey DJ!” It was the next single that was released, although not with as much success. The version of the same theme with Yandel is also known. On August 18 they release a remix version of “Reggaetón Lento” together with the American female quartet Little Mix. On October 20 they present ” Mamita “, a slow ballad.

During February 2018 they visit several provinces of the Argentine interior and perform on the 25th at the Viña del Mar Song Festival, in Chile. On March 2, they confirmed a new album with the single ” Mi Medicina “.

Richard Camacho spoke about the keys to that success: “ I believe that family is the most important thing for us. They are the ones that keep us with our feet on the ground, the ones that always emphasize where we come from all that we have struggled to get to this point. And the experience of life: everything we have learned, we have been in different countries, with different cultures. We have learned so many things that that is what keeps us focused and wanting to keep going, because we are looking for more and more.”

Another key to success is the good spirit that these guys live as a group, with the interaction among themselves away from the stage. About that musical friendship, Erick said: “I think we have learned a lot in all this time. Two years and three months have passed, the truth is I don’t know how I’m still holding up (laughs). The truth was that there was always a connection between us, a lot of respect too. That is the most important thing, and what has led CNCO to be where it is. I am very happy to be with these guys. I think we have a very interesting connection.”

Undoubtedly a band of boys whose career continues to rise and that at this rate could become an emblematic music band just like One Direction.

In February 2019 CNCO released Pretend , their catchy global hit sung in English and Spanish with which they aspired to conquer the North American and European markets. The song included references to DeBarge’s 1980s song , Rhythm of the Night , however the song was not well received beyond regular fans who already consumed CNCO ‘s music , plus they participated in a charity campaign for encourage their fans to always sterilize their animals and adopt dogs instead of buying them. In a video titled Have a Heart for your Dog, each of the members gave their feelings about canines.

On October 11, 2019, they released “Que Quiénes Somos” being the third record production of CNCO , which featured a collaboration with the Colombian singer Manuel Turizo on the song called “Pegao” being released as a single on the same day the album was released. which also included other songs such as ” De cero “, “Qué va ser de mi”, “La Ley”, “Ya tú sabes”, “De mí” and “Tóxica” .

A few days after the release of the album at the 2019 Latin American Music Awards , CNCO took home two awards: “Best Favorite Duo or Group” and “Favorite Pop Artist” where they competed against Luis Fonsi , Pedro Capó and Sebastián Yatra .

After a few more months of great success for all the members of this successful boyband, news would arrive that would mark the beginning of the end for the band CNCO when singer Joel Pimentel announced in May 2021 that he would stop being part of CNCO  to start his career . musical as a soloist, this was revealed in a press release where the singer thanked all the support he always had with CNCO but that it was time to take charge of his life and his artistic career.

His bandmates Christopher Vélez , Zabdiel de Jesús , Richard Camacho and Erick Brian Colón dedicated a brief message to Joel Pimentel wishing him the best but assuring that the 4 of them would continue together; “Although Joel is leaving and will be pursuing new opportunities, we are and always will be brothers, we will support him in his next chapter… Although it will be different, we are excited to show you the new era.”

Biography of CNCO Members

Christopher Bryant Velez Muñoz

Christopher Bryant Vélez Muñoz (November 23, 1995), was born in the United States and is of Ecuadorian descent, some time later he moved to Hightstown, New Jersey. Before entering La Banda he worked shining shoes and with the money he earned he paid the rent. In his house in Ecuador he lives with his mother, his brother (Jonathan Vélez), his grandmother and his uncle. Christopher is the oldest of the five boys in CNCO and was the first to join the band.

Christopher says he saw an ad for La Banda and decided to send a video. He was accepted to go to audition in New York. He later qualified for the casting in Miami and sang the Ricky Martín song, Maybe. The judges gave him all three votes and he went on to the next round of auditions. Read full bio…

Richard Yashel Camacho Puello

Richard Yashel Camacho Puello (January 22, 1997) was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, lives in New Hampshire. He has two younger brothers than him. One of them, Yashua Camacho, also participated in the reality show.

Erick Brian Colón Arista

Erick Brian Colón Arista , (January 3, 2001), moved from Havana, Cuba, to Tampa, Florida with his mother, father, and sister. Before participating in the reality show “La Banda” he went to high school but now he continues to study taking classes online. He is the youngest of the band, he was the fourth member selected to enter CNCO. He was about to be eliminated from La Banda since he did not get the necessary score, but Ricky Martin gave him a second chance and he passed the audition with the vote of him and the other judges ( Laura Pausini and Alejandro Sanz ). Read full bio…

Joel Pimentel De Leon

Joel Pimentel De León (February 28, 1999), from Hesperia, California, with Mexican descent, applied to La Banda, because thanks to his grandfather (now deceased) he had an interest in the field of singing. He was the third boy selected to be part of CNCO; At first it was difficult for him to communicate with the boys, even his followers considered him the most shy of the band, but Joel explained in interviews that it was because of his Spanish, since he did not know much. Currently he has improved his speech in this language and can now communicate better. He appeared in La Banda with the song One Hundred Sheep, which did not initially favor him; however, the judges allowed him to sing another song, which was Ed Sheeran ‘s I See Fire . Read full bio…

Zabdiel de Jesus Colon
