Who is Patrick Loliger?

Patrick Alexandre Ernst Loliger Salas, better known only as Patrick Loliger, is a famous Mexican rower, athlete, and television star who became very famous in 2019 after being a participant in the second season of Exatlón México. Patrick Loliger was born on June 20, 1985 in Mexico City and is also well recognized for his participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing and London.

Beginnings in the life of Patrick Loliger

The now famous sportsman and athlete Patrick Loliger was born in Mexico City on June 20, 1985, being the second son of his parents Rolf Loliger of Swiss origin and Angelica Salas who is Mexican. Patrick Loliger grew up in a very familiar environment and began to practice sports at the Real Club España, however his love for sports did not make him give up his studies and he was able to finish his degree in International Business at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Ciudad de Mexico.

He started rowing at the age of 13, however, before discovering it, he played soccer for the España club. It was in that place where he began to hear about this sport. “I always heard news about the club’s rowers, who were part of the national team and represented Mexico in international competitions, so I decided to give it a try and be part of this group,” Patrick Loliger  recalled in a recent interview in which he also spoke about which was what inspired him to dedicate his life fully to sports.

“I was a very skinny and short boy for my age, so I wanted to get into rowing to get stronger, but I made great friends in this sport, including my wife whom I have known since I was 13 years old. Being in contact with nature every day thanks to rowing is something that also made me passionate about this sport. And then representing Mexico, and competing in different countries was another reason why I continued in this sport”.

Throughout his great artistic and sporting career, Patrick Loliger has won a wide variety of medals around the world, including the Ratzeburger and Wedau regattas in Germany, the Gent in Belgium, the Paolo D Aloja in Italy and became the first Mexican rower to win a medal at the World University Championships in Kazan, Russia. He won two medals at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, and his greatest achievement came in Argentina when he beat his greatest competitor and role model, Santiago Fernández, who came fourth at the Athens Olympics. 2005.

TV Azteca announced the premiere of Exatlón in October 2017, a format and program that had been tremendously successful in several countries and for the first time would be taking place in Mexico with sports commentator Antonio Rosique as the host of the program.

The show began with two “famous and contending” teams who would face tough physical and mental tests in order to find the best athlete and who would take not only the Exatlón title but also two million pesos. Patrick Loliger was selected after doing a casting to be able to enter the broadcast and from the first day he was showing that he had everything to reach the final. The program was not only successful but also became a television phenomenon that had not been on TV for a long time, and even less so on TV Azteca, so much so that the reality show lasted 6 months on the air.

Patrick Loliger was part of the famous team and from the first moment he showed that he was one of the strongest rivals to beat as he showed the determination, ability and strength to go very far in the competition where he was facing other great personalities. During his time at Exatlón, Patrick Loliger was able to win several tests that also gave him small prizes, such as when he won 5,000 pesos and on another occasion 3,000 pesos in cash. In Week 22, the elimination duel between Aristeo Cázares and Patrick Loliger took place , but, Patrick Loligershe had to receive medical attention due to a severe blow to the head she sustained when the elimination was taking place so it was postponed until she could recover. After an excellent performance in Exatlón México, Patrick Loliger managed to stay in tenth place in the competition and although he could not reach the final stretch, he was quite satisfied that he had managed to beat many competitors before, since there were a total of 31 participants in that second season. .

After 20 years of practicing rowing, Patrick Loliger decided to get off the boat, to turn his career around and now stand out in winter sports. “I have only practiced winter sports as a child, and it was when I lived in Switzerland for six years, and skiing is popular there. It is a decision that I wanted to make for a while, since it has always been a passion for me, and I think it is a good time to try it , “said Patrick Loliger in an interview in 2019, in addition to feeling very happy about his time in Exatlón México .

Patrick Loliger also commented that he had in mind to compete in the Olympic Games again and would be dedicating himself fully to fulfill that dream: “This year I want to recover physically and continue competing in rowing, but I want to participate in Beijing 2022, which are the Olympic Games. training in the discipline of cross-country skiing, so this year I’m going to train alongside rowing and next year I’m going to focus 100 percent on skiing”. However, Patrick Loliger did not expect that TV Azteca would call him again to be part of a new version of Exatlón where it would be his revenge for now if he consolidated his triumph.

At the end of 2020, the new season of Exatlón México was announced , again with Antonio Rosique as the host, however in this new season they would bring back the most outstanding participants of the first 3 seasons to make a kind of “rematch” in the that those who did not win would have a new opportunity to obtain the grand prize and those who had won such as Ernesto Cázares , Aristeo Cázares , Mati Alvarez and Heliud Pulido in the previous seasons decided to accept the invitation to return to reaffirm their victory. Curiously Macky GonzalezThe runner-up of the first season was participating in the Televisa program “Guerreros 2020” because she and some other former Exatlón participants had changed television stations, which many considered a betrayal of Exatlón and TV Azteca.
