Who is Charytin?

María del Rosario Goico Rodríguez  , better known only as Charytín, is a famous Dominican singer, television presenter and actress who has stood out mostly on television, appearing on programs such as “Escandalo TV, El Show de Charytín, Tu cara me suena”, among many others . plus. Charytín was born on May 23, 1949 in Santa Lucía del Seibo, Dominican Republic and is the mother of three children named Shalim, Alexander and Sharinna that she had with her husband Elín Ortiz who died in 2016 at the age of 81.

Beginnings in the life of Charytín

In the Dominican Republic, she sang from town to town until international television showed her to the world and Spanish-speakers loved her. The now famous Charytín began in show business in the 1970s, making appearances on the program El Show del Mediodía produced by Tommy Muñiz. , as well as in a weekly television program on Channel 4 of Puerto Rico WAPA-TV.

But one of the moments that would change his life would be when Charytín represented his country, the Dominican Republic, at the OTI Festival in 1974, performing the song ” Älexandra “, years later one of his musical themes would attract a lot of attention; the song “Mosquita muerta”  which was also the name of her television program.

In acting , Charytín acted in the film Prohibido amar en Nueva York with the Mexican actor Julio Alemán and together with the melodrama he premiered two songs “Tiempo” and “Para llegar” that became hits.

Years later, Charytín Goyco was fascinated by her participation in the film “Broche de Oro: Comienzos”, where she played “Agatha”, a cinematographic proposal by the writer, director and editor Raúl Marchand Sánchez. “The movie is wonderful. It is a beauty! A movie to watch the whole family. A lot of heart was put into making this film”, Charytín commented in 2017 when said project was released.

A great success for the singer, actress and presenter Charytín occurred in 2002, when Charytín was the main host of Escándalo TV together with Marisa del Portillo, Felipe Viel and Lilia Luciano, for Telefutura. Escándalo TV  was a live talk show in Spanish about celebrity news and gossip of interest to a Latino audience. The program was so successful that it lasted more than 10 years on the air, but in 2011 it had its last broadcast.

Suddenly, overnight, Charytín went from saying good morning to the country’s Hispanic audience to disappearing from television, but it was only on television as she continued working, above all, in plays where she premiered “Widow. com ”, she was also the image of important commercial campaigns such as Jugos Ya, as if that were not enough, she appeared on the  “Dominicana Got Talent”  program but since she was not seen in the United States for many she was still missing from the medium.

When the virus pandemic hit the whole world and forced everyone to work from home, Charytín in collaboration with his daughter created the show on Instagram Chary y Shary, a project where mother and daughter shared anecdotes and the most entertaining talks to take away a little fun in times of pandemic.

Although Charytín has excelled in a large number of professional fields over the course of so many years, such as music and acting, she undoubtedly said that what made her the most happy was being on television, which was what she really loved the most ; “For the first time, I think I admit it, but television, of all the entertainment activities I’ve done, is the one I’m most passionate about and fills me with satisfaction.”

After several successes in his professional career, in March 2022 he started a new project by being part of “Tu cara me suena” a reality show that would be premiering on Univisión and for the first time simultaneously on Televisa. In the program “Your face sounds to me” Charytín was part of the panel of judges  of the program together with Angélica Vale , Víctor Manuelle  and  Edén Muñoz . The program achieved very good audience levels because without a doubt the reality show had great personalities from show business such as; Kika Edgar , Christian Daniel , Rafael Araneda , among others.

Children and husband of Charytín

The love story between Charytín and her husband Elín Ortiz began when they were just very young because he was enchanted by her not only for her music but for her talent as a composer and they decided to start a love relationship, in 1974 they finally decided to unite their lives in marriage in a wedding that drew a lot of attention in all the show media in his native Puerto Rico where he was very famous and in the Dominican Republic where she had made her career.

In 1979  Shalim, the couple’s firstborn, was born and after a few years they both decided to move to the United States where their twins Sharina and Alexander were born. Although over the years it was speculated that the couple was on the verge of divorcing on several occasions, that finally never happened and, on the contrary, in May 2007, the television host renewed her wedding vows with her husband.

But not all of it would be good news because in September 2015, Charytín revealed sad news because she assured that her husband suffered from Alzheimer’s, a disease that had been afflicting him for years, in addition to having diabetes.

But in June 2016 terrible news would arrive because Elín Ortiz had passed away ;  “My children, my family and I are in great sadness, but we know that right now he enjoys a wonderful place with the Almighty ,” said the artist after reporting the death of Elín, who was her husband for so many years and her life partner.
