Who are  ITZY?

Itzy is a South Korean girl band exponent of the K-Pop genre made up of Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong and Yuna ; Together they have achieved great successes such as Wannabe, In the morning, Not shy, Icy, Dalla Dalla, among others. The group Itzy debuted on February 12 with the support of JYP Entertainment and they have been considered one of the best kpop groups in their country.

ITZY Beginnings

ITZY is a musical group of the K-pop genre whose first news was released in 2017 by JYP Entertainment. Later, in 2018, there were rumors that the trainees known by the names Jeon So-mi and Shin Ryu-jin would be part of a new group. A short time ago, in 2015, Somi was on the television show called Sixteen, while the following year, in 2016, we could see her on Produce 101, in which she was the first place winner to later be part of IOI.

However, Somi left the company on the date of August 20, 2018, at the same time that JYP Entertainment confirmed Ryujin as a new member of the group. Ryujin already had some fame due to his participation in BTS Universe in 2017.

A short time later, Ryujin was on the television show called Mix Nine, where he was ranked first among the women. While Chaeryong and her older sister named Chaeyeon were part of the cast of Sixteen, although neither of them made their debut in the group, for her part, Lía was an apprentice at SM Entertainment, although she later left the agency, while Yuna, the The youngest girl in the group, she appeared on Stray Kids.

In this way, already having selected the members of the new group, JYP Entertainment made the public announcement that it would make the debut of a new musical group made up of pure women; It was on the YouTube platform that the names of the five members were revealed, the name of the group would be ITZY . In this way, on the date of February 11, 2019, they made their formal debut with the song titled “It’z Different” and also with the song “Dalla Dalla”.

We must point out that the public received a great reception of the lyrics, which were described as “powerful”, while the music video exceeded the number of 17.1 million views in just 24 hours of being published, which meant breaking the record as the most viewed K-pop debut video so far, certainly a great moment for  ITZY.

ITZY trajectory and history

Subsequently, on February 21, ITZY obtained their first victory in M! Countdown. While shortly after they released their first mini album which was known under the title It’z Icy, and which was accompanied by the music video “Icy”. Then, on September 22, JYPE made the announcement of the music group’s first tour which they named Itzy Premiere Showcase Tour “Itzy? Itzy!”, which began in Jakarta on November 2 and went through different cities in Asia before crossing the ocean to the United States.

The following year, in 2020, they started the year with five concerts and the ITZY  girls began their tour in that country on January 17 in the city of Los Angeles, California. A little later, on March 9, he released his second EP, which was titled It’z Me, where the main single was the song “Wannabe”. We cannot ignore the fact that it was this same year when they appeared at The Fact Music Awards with the category of “best performer” as winners; in the same way they won the Soribada Best K-Music Awards with the New K-wave Artist Award; and we cannot forget that they were winners at the Seoul Music Awards with the category of “new artist award”.

While if we talk about specific songs for which they stood out during the past year 2020 we have to mention the title of “Dalla Dalla”, which made them appear in the Golden Disk Awards with the categories of: “Daesang Digital” (nominated), and “Bonsang Digital” (winners). The song “Wannabe” made them nominated for the category of “song of the year for the month of March” at the Gaon Chart Music Awards, while at these same awards they were nominated for “song of the year for the month of August” for the track “Not shy”, while as a group they were listed in the “MuBeat Female Global Choice” category as well as nominated as an  ITZY group.

In the same way, we must point out that the members of ITZY  were nominated at the Break Tudo Awards with the category of “k-pop female group”, as if that were not enough, in mid-2021 they released the EP album known as Guess. Who, which contains the songs from: “In the morning”, “Sorry not sorry”, “Kidding me”, “Wild wild west”, “Shoot!”, and “Tennis (0:0)”. In addition to the fact that they have released the completely English version of the song entitled “Not shy”.

At the same time, ITZY  have received important recognitions such as the Golden Disk Awards where they have been winners in the “Digital Bonsang” category thanks to the song “Wannabe”, while the theme of “Not Shy” has placed them as nominees in these same awards with the category of “digital album”, and as a group they have stood out in the categories of “QQ Music popularity award” and “curaprox award for the most popular artist”. In the Seoul Music Awards they are as winners in the category of “discovery of the year”, and as nominees in the categories of: “Rookie Legend Award”, “Bonsang Award”, “Popularity Award”, and “Popularity Award K-Wave”.
