Who is Siddhartha?

Jorge Siddhartha González Ibarra better known simply as Siddhartha was born in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on August 25, 1990, he is a solo indie rock musician who was a drummer for the Mexican rock group Zoé ; but he decided to launch his solo career in 2008, currently he is one of the most popular indie singers in Mexico. At the beginning of 2021  Siddhartha began  a relationship with the youtuber Yuya  and a year later they announced the arrival of her first child.

Since he was a child, Siddhartha always showed a gift for music and although he led a common life like any other child who went to regular school and then went out to play with his friends, Siddhartha had in mind that when he grew up he wanted to dedicate himself to music, so he At all the parties that his family had or gatherings with friends, he would sing for them to liven up these gatherings, which everyone loved and when there were music or talent contests at his school, he always signed up as a participant because on each occasion who had liked to demonstrate his talent for music. Years later he perfected his skills on drums, guitar and took singing classes, however he never gave up his studies as he first decided to study Biology and later gave up on Graphic Design.

In 2005, Siddhartha joined Zoé as a drummer, where he remained supporting the Mexican rock band at all times and participating in the tours they did throughout Mexico. Siddhartha was with them until the album Memo Rex Commander and the atomic heart of the Milky Way, but the time came when Siddhartha thought about launching his solo career because he didn’t always see himself as only part of a band and on drums, so he decided to take flight by himself and released his album, ‘ Why You? , in which he composed, played, interpreted, recorded and produced together with his collaborator and friend, Aldo Muñoz, who would also collaborate closely on his next two productions.

When Siddhartha left Zoé, he assured that it had been one of his best life experiences : “I learned a lot in every way, musically speaking, without a doubt, it was an enormous experience. Both having experienced the tour, and having participated in the process of an album. It was the last band in which I participated and I think it was also the previous step that prepared me to be able to undertake this solo project. And of course, personally, it was also a great life experience.”

Following the release of, ‘ Why you? ‘, Siddhartha managed to position himself as one of the most promising artists on the independent music scene in Mexico and little by little he began to generate a lot of interest in people who began to place him more as a singer and not as a member of Zoé, however He fought hard to be seen as a solo singer and not as a band because Siddhartha is himself and he is accompanied by musicians Erick Rangel on synthesizer and keyboards, Alejandro Chubaka playing bass, Raul Velázquez on guitar and Orlando Farias on the drums who are part of his project but Siddhartha is not a band.

His ‘ UNIQUE ‘ talent and style earned him the ‘Best Rock Solo Album’ award at the 2008 Indie-o Music Awards . As if that were not enough, he managed to be nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category Best Vocal Rock Album, along with Andrés Calamaro and Chetes.
With great expectations and after his debut album was widely accepted, he released ” Náufrago ” which did not disappoint and became one of the best-selling albums in Mexico. The album was considered by specialized critics as one of the best albums of 2011, winning the Latin Roll Award for “Náufrago” as “Song of the Year” and the Nuevas Lenguas award for “Best Latin Artist”.. He also received 3 nominations at the Indie O Music Awards in the categories “Best Solo Record”, “Song of the Year” and “Video of the Year”.

From this album he released the singles “Náufrago”, “Domingo”, “Extraños” and “El Poema y la Caja” and gave way to his first great world tour ” Náufrago ” that spanned the entire country and some cities in the United States with great success. After this Siddhartha left to prepare his third recording material.

In “El vuelo del pez” , unlike his previous albums, he decided to reflect and capture personal situations of love and heartbreak, as well as an evolution at a musical level because he wanted to give his audience something new and not the same thing he had been doing before. : “I reflected on a personal level what happened to me, many things that are reflected on the album, such as love and heartbreak, as well as a process of evolution, because you have to let go to undertake new things ,” said the singer in a recent interview.

In December 2019 Siddhartha performed for the first time at the National Auditorium with a full house. The night started with classic songs by the band such as El aire, Ser parte and Domingo. An authentic journey through the most representative of his entire discography, presented in stages until reaching his most recent recording, which has earned the project unprecedented media attention.
