Santiago Gabriel Ormeño Zayas ,  better known only as Santiago Ormeño, is a famous Mexican soccer player who works mainly as a striker and who has stood out throughout his successful career in sports clubs such as Pioneros de Cancún, Puebla, BUAP Premier, Real Garcilaso, Club León. , among others. Santiago Ormeño was born on February 4, 1994 in Mexico City and due to his dual nationality he has participated in the national team of Mexico and Peru.

Santiago Gabriel Ormeño Zayas, who is currently the famous forward  Santiago Ormeño , was born on February 4, 1994 in Mexico City, he is the grandson of former soccer player Walter Ormeño and son of Walter Ormeño Jr. and Gabriela Zayas, who inherited dual nationality from him; Mexican on his mother’s side and Peruvian on his father’s side; he only has a younger brother named Walter Ormeño Jr. Tercero.

His grandfather, Walter Ormeño, passed away at the age of 93 on January 4, 2020. He was an outstanding goalkeeper, emblem of Club América and one of the coaches who led the four great soccer players (Pumas, Chivas, Aguilas and Cruz Azul). Despite this, Walter did not want to be tempted to turn his grandson into a goalkeeper, but the soccer player Santiago Ormeño considers him a fundamental pillar that helped a lot during his training and affirms “Almost everything I know I learned from my grandfather. He was the person, along with my parents, who encouraged me to pursue the dream of being a soccer player and to work for it. Unfortunately he didn’t get to see me achieve this, but I know he’s happy wherever he is.”

At an early age Santiago Ormeño  began to train in the minor divisions of America, where he was in charge of integrating the ranks of América Coapa and in which he was formed from the Under 17 basic forces in 2011 in the League of New Talents Mexico , currently called Series B of Mexico.

Santiago Ormeño debuted on October 3 during the 2012 Apertura Tournament with a 3-0 win against Bavaria Tultitlán. His first goal was obtained in the 2013 Apertura when he scored against the Cuautla team in which the club was in favor with a score of 5-2.

During 2015 Santiago Ormeño arrived for the first time at Pumas de la UNAM where he participated with the affiliate team in the third division; in August of that same year he obtained a 2-0 victory against the Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz Premier team in the 2015 Apertura. On September 4, with only three games with the subsidiary team, he obtained another 3-2 victory against the Pioneros de Cancún team. In July, Santiago faced the 2017 Opening Tournament against the Pioneros de Cancún in the same category. He made his debut for the club on August 18 in a 2-1 victory against the América Premier team. On October 11, he scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win against Tuxtla.

In January 2018 Santiago Ormeño joined the Lobos of the BUAP Premier, which competed in the third category of Mexican soccer, even though he played very little in the team, he scored a score in two games of the 2018 Clausura Tournament.


In July during the 2018 Opening he decided to join the ranks of Puebla FC, in which Enrique Meza was the coach and Juan Reynoso as assistant; it is there where he made the leap to the first Mexican division. On October 26, in the event for the Copa México Apertura 2018, he made his debut with the first team playing 5 minutes and won a 1-0 victory against Los Venados. In February 2019 during the Copa MX Santiago Ormeño  scored his first goal with the club and drew 1-1 against the Juárez team. In the Clausura 2019 he only got to participate in two games for 24 minutes since the Canadian Lucas Cavallini prevented him from having more opportunities.

In June 2019,  Santiago Ormeño trained for the Chivas team with the purpose of becoming a reinforcement, but despite this he was unable to be part of the team.

In July 2019, Puebla FC loaned him to the Peruvian League 1 for six months for Real Garcilaso, in which there were sights towards the Clausura Tournament; Thus, on August 10, 2019, during the 2019 Bicentennial Cup, he finally made his debut in the round of 16 with a 2-1 victory against Melgar and it was where he received his first assist with the Cuzco club. On August 23, once again his first goal in Peru turned the Melgar team into a 2-1 defeat, this time by the league. He finally did not complete the loan, returning to Santiago Ormeño  shortly after to Mexico.

The young soccer player gained popularity after standing out in the e-LigaMX, a FIFA 20 tournament organized by Liga MX during the Covid-19 pandemic where each team had to choose one of their professional field players to carry out a competition virtual. And Puebla FC chose Santiago Ormeño . On Monday, July 27, 2020, playing as a visitor with Puebla vs. Mazatlán, at the Kraken Stadium, he was the author of the first goal and since then he has become an important part of the team.

Santiago Ormeño has managed to stand out as a very versatile center forward with a cool mentality, in total he has played 37 games as a professional footballer for Cuzco FC and Puebla FC, in which he has scored a total of 15 goals; two of them in the 2020 Guardians League against Monterrey and León.
