Who is Mau and Ricky?

Mau y Ricky is a Venezuelan musical duo exponents of the reggaeton genre and urban music who have achieved great successes such as Dolería, La Boca, Papás, Desconocidos, in addition to having been judges of La Voz Kids México. Mau and Ricky are brothers and they launched into the world of music in 2009, they are also known for being the sons of Ricardo Montaner, brothers of Evaluna Montaner and  Camilo is his brother-in-law.

Beginnings in the life of Mau and Ricky

Mauricio Alberto and Ricardo Andrés Reglero Rodríguez, better known in the world of fame and entertainment as Mau and Rick , are two brothers who were born in Caracas, Venezuela. His father is the famous singer and author known as Ricardo Montaner, and his mother is the filmmaker Marlene Rodríguez.

We know that  Mau and Ricky  lived with their parents in Caracas until they were 7 and 10 years old; later they moved with Ricardo Montaner and Marlene Rodríguez to Miami, Florida, United States; where they live today. His parents, Ricardo and Marlene have one more daughter, who works as an actress and singer, named  Evaluna Montaner ; in addition to the fact that on their father’s side they have two half-brothers named Héctor Eduardo and Alejandro Manuel, who came into the world as a result of Ricardo Montaner’s first marriage.

Mau and Ricky began their studies in music at the early ages of 4 and 6; time in which they played in a Church, later they formed a band with whose members it is known that they played weekly. In those times of extreme youth, the brothers Mauricio and Ricardo were also dedicated to composing, editing and recording what would be their first album that would bear the name MR, with which they would begin to be known in the world of fame. Shortly after, they went on a tour that their father, Ricardo Montaner, did through Latin America.

It is important that we emphasize that since then, these youngsters were part of their father’s musical team: Mauricio was dedicated to playing the drums, while Ricardo or Ricky was the first guitarist. It is in 2015 when they officially adopted the stage name of Mau and Ricky, leaving behind what was their first name in the world of music: MR.

In 2011 Mau and Ricky  launched fully into the world of music with their single titled “Hoy”, shortly after, in 2013, they released ” Preguntas “, and a year later the song “I’ll go behind you” would come. For the year 2016 they published the songs “I’m going to burn” and “To forget you”; This last song would be included in his first recording material. 

In 2017 they released the EP considered their debut, and to which Mau and Ricky  gave the name Arte, which was with the Sony Music Latin record label. Also during this same year they would participate in the song “Mi mala” together with Karol G.

The following year, in 2018, they would appear again with Karol G , Leslie Grace, Becky G , and Lali . We must also mention the song ” Bailoteame ” in which they collaborated with Abraham Mateo and Agustín Casanova. The songs “Ya no tiene novio” with Sebastián Yatra , and ” Unknown “, in collaboration with  Camilo and Manuel Turizo , took place within the same 2018 , this being one of their greatest successes for Mau and Ricky. We also can’t forget about the song “Aventura” in which they appeared together with V-One. During this same year they were guest artists of Jesús de Reik y Dvicio in the song known as “What do you have”; “Inadvertently wanting” by  Lali , and “This is not sincere”, original by Adexe & Nau. They had in the category of promotional singles the songs called “Mal de la cabeza” (where they were together with Becky G ), and “Japonesa”.

The following year, in 2019, in the month of May, Mau y Ricky  released their album titled Para aventuras y curiosidades , which placed them at number 3 on the Pop Latin Albums list, originally from the magazine known as Billboard. in the United States, place and publication in which they managed to stay for 39 weeks in a row. In the non-album singles category, we must highlight his 2019 works entitled “ Faldita ” in collaboration with Leslie Shaw, “Anda pal carajo (APC)” with Rudy Mancuso and XAXO, “Cariño mío” with the artist Chyno Miranda, and the song “Bota fuego” with Nicky Jam.

Mau y Ricky  were nominated for the 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards, under the “Latin Pop Album” category. Besides that they were worthy of many platinum and diamond edition records in the United States.

In 2020, during the month of January, Mau and Ricky  appeared as a duo in different collaborations, among which we can highlight the song “Ya tú me conoces” , where they joined their voices together with the famous singer Thalía; We must also not forget the song ” I remember ” in which they participated together with the artist Tini , and the song titled Sigo buscándote , which they presented together with Ovy On The Drums .

In the field of songwriters, Mau and Ricky have stood out for writing songs for different singers, among which we can point out Miguel Bosé, Cristian Castro, Diego Boneta , Leslie Grace, Thalía, Karol G , Ricky Martin and Ednita Nazario.

Among their most successful compositions we can mention the songs entitled ” Ya no tiene novio” in which they participated together with Sebastián Yatra, “Vente pa’ca” performed by the artists Mau and Ricky and Maluma , “Without pajamas” performed by Natti Natasha and Becky G , and “Pa’ dentro” by the artist Juanes, later they had projects such as the songs “What would you say?”, “I fall in love”, “Dads”, “Dolería”, among many more in 2021. 

Given the success of their challenge entitled Papas, the brothers Mau and Ricky spoke a little more about their personal lives in an interview. The artists mentioned that the inspiration for the theme was taken from the experience that we have all lived at some time regarding meeting the in-laws. Perhaps the public associates this topic more with the event of  Camilo ‘s proposal for his sister Evaluna Montaner ‘s hand  .

Regarding what  Mau and Ricky felt when they met the parents of their respective partners: called Sara and Stefi; Mau and Ricky were sincere that fortunately the experience was very pleasant, and they clicked very well with their in-laws from the beginning.
